those that announced your pg way early...

Do you wish you waited? I am dying over here.. I'm only 7 weeks and haven't even been to my first dr appt yet but everytime i'm around friends and family I want to shout it out.. So I go home and just keep telling the dog over and over again. LOL.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I mean imo the only reason someone might regret it is if the have a m/c and hate having to tell everyone/questions etc.

So, that's really what I would consider. For me, if I did m/c I felt like I would be better off with some support so I went ahead and let a more inner circle know about the bfp right away. I waited until 10 weeks until I said anything more public like on fb and to work people.

Also, I know it's hard to imagine your reaction to a m/c without it ever happening so for all I know my "reasoning" could be off base.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

with DS we told everything by 8 weeks. I'm glad I did. Since DS I've had a MC so I'm a little weary.

We told our immediate families but are going to try and hold off until 12-14 weeks.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I started telling people after our first doctors appt and I dont regret it. it was great having people know why i didn't feel well, why i wasn't drinking, etc... and it allowed me to have a bit of a support group for all the crazy things i was feeling, etc...

I can't hold things in -- family knew within a day or the BFP.

Close friends knew within about 2 wks of the BFP.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I don't regret it, I couldn't hold it in either. We told our parents at 8 weeks (because it was Christmas) & our close friends at 10. DH went public on Facebook around 18 (we wanted to wait a little before the whole world & their mother knew)

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I regret it b/c I was so nervous and I felt like I couldn't really ENJOY telling everyone.

After my first appointment at 8 weeks, I wished that I could get a "do over" and tell everyone then b/c it just wasn't as exciting for everyone else!

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

first time around we told our immediate family right away (within a few days of finding out) and our close friends around 6 weeks. I had a mc at 8 weeks and was very thankful we had only told the people closest to us. we had a good support system, but we didn't need to run around telling extended family and semi-close friends about our loss.
im 7 weeks pg now. we've only told our immediate family and closest friends again, and will stay that way until prob 12-13 weeks (hopefully!)

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

we didn't tell the masses until 12 weeks, but we told my family right away and ILs at 8 weeks.

I wish we would have waited with the ILs bc they harassed us about telling the rest of their family and then went ahead and told them anyway even though we said several times not to. Chat Icon

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I told my BFFs the day after I POAS (AF wasn't even due yet) because I needed to tell someone and I don't regret it. I needed their support. We told our parents at 5 weeks, close family and friends after the first doc appt (about 9 weeks) and came out to the rest of the world and work at 13 weeks.

We knew at 4wks and "announced" at 9wks after 2 u's's. We just couldn't keep it in anymoreChat Icon We had had a previous m/c so we were nervous, but when we told family we told the people that would be our support system should anything happen. In my family word travels fast so there was no need for us to call everybody. My Grandmother's took care of that for usChat Icon

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

We told everyone right away, except for work, and when I did tell there (my boss at 8 weeks, everyone else at 12), they all said they knew. I didn't plan on telling so early, but DH has a big mouth and was so excited! Everyone was very supportive and I'm glad we told then.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

We didnt tell anyone, then @ 6.5 weeks I had a MC. It was honestly a double edge sword, I was happy we hadn't b/c I didnt have to deal w/everyone's questions and comments. Now I am kinda annoyed, at times, that we didnt b/c a few friends & family are giving us B.S. about not being preggers yet. I'm kinda at the point where I want to scream @ them and tell them all about it so they will just leave us alone! Chat Icon

ETA: When we do conceive again, I am going to try and talk DH into telling everyone right away. If we were to have another MC, I don't think I could handle going through it again in silence.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I couldn't wait, I told a few days after my BFPs ..around 5 weeks. as the weeks went on and we knew things were okay (with dr apts) we started telling more and more people ...still waiting for 12 weeks for facebook. and I would have waited for work 12 weeks but one of the handful of people I thought I trusted said something and everyone knows now (9.5 weeks) I am glad though because now everyone knows why I look so puffy (bloated) and why I am so exhausted, confused, and cranky. And a few times I had to call out sick b/c M/S was so bad. Everyone's been supportive. Hopefully baby keeps sticking.

Congrats and Good Luck with your decision!! (Telling close family and friends was fun!!!)

I can sort of relate to that. We only told our parents, grandparents, siblings and my best friend. My parents knew at 6 weeks after my first sonogram and everyone else I mentioned was told around 8 weeks. A week later I went for a sonogram again and found out I had lost the baby. It was tough. At first I was glad that nobody else knew I was pregnant because I was an emotional mess and didn't want to deal with it but months after I kind of wish it was common knowledge because I've gotten a lot of hurtful questions and comments from friends and family about us having a baby. Also I suffered in silence and that is hard. As time went on I told a few people, some friends, my cousin, but it's still a "secret". It's hard having this terrible experience that nobody knows about.

I am newly pregnant again and I told my parents right away. They are the only ones we are telling for now. I told them because if something goes wrong we'll need support, on top of that I'm a nervous wreck and I need someone to talk to about it besides DH. I couldn't tell just my Mom so I told my Mom and Dad.

I don't think I'm coming out to anyone else, including my inlaws until 12-14 weeks. I want to be able to enjoy coming out without so much worry hanging over my head. The way it is now with my parents it's like we are all holding our breaths. It wasn't exciting to tell them, it was more like, "ok, it happened again so start praying."

I know it's hard to keep it a secret. The first time around I wanted to scream it from the rooftops. This time around I told my dog like 100 times because like you said I just needed to say it to get it out of my system Chat Icon As long as you are comfortable with sharing bad news as well as good news than I say go for it. Maybe you can confide in just a few close relatives/friends.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

My DH and I had the same dilemma. We went through 7 years of trying, numerous IVF's before finally getting our first BFP in May. We were soooo excited especially after everything we have gone through. It has been a roller coaster of emotions and when we finally got the good news how could we not tell the whole world? We were not going to tell everyone but it was hard. After each sono we have told more and more people. I am now just over 9 weeks and my doctor says things look perfect but I don't know when or if I will ever relax.
We both agreed to not say anything to DH's grandparents till 12 or 13 weeks. I think they are the only ones, besides a selective few that don't know. I did end up having it out with my inlaws when my MIL told a childhood friend of hers and my FIL told one of his 4 brothers who then called up my DH to congratulate him. I lost it and so did my DH. We have been waiting for 7years to finally tell people this news and there they were doing it and I was LIVID!! Im better now. I know they are excited but we had to make it clear that when we are ready we will tell who we want and when. Slowly I have given permission for my SIL to tell her friends and each day I find myself telling some other random person. I know anything can happen however the support system I have is amazing and for me this is a miracle that I can't hold inside.

I literally emailed a close group of my girlfriends as soon as I got the BFP lol. We've slowly been coming out to people as we see/talk to them (I'm 9 weeks). I was too excited to wait Chat Icon

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I think in many cases, those who told early and had everything work out fine will be glad they told early. Those who told early and had something happen will feel the opposite.

Coming from someone who has been through a few losses, I personally will wait till my ultrascreen to start telling (even though my first lost was beyond the ultrascreen at 17wks) Really though, it's what you feel comfortable with. Many people choose to go in with the mindset of thinking positively and assuming it will all work out and that there's no harm in telling, so if that's what you're comfortable with, go for it!

God luck at your first appointment!!
