That's not mean, that's teaching consequences.
I agree
ITA! Not mean at all. I know some previous posters stated you should just move it out of his reach but I honestly do not think that really teaches them how to always behave in certain situations.
What if you are at someone else's home and they do not have the remote out of reach from your child and you do not want them playing with their remote either.
I have a friend who moves EVERYTHING out of reach from her children rather than teaching them no. And when she goes to others homes, she expects them to do the same thing with all of their valuables - I do not believe that is appropriate or a realistic situation to ask of others.

WHAT? That's mean, no way! I must be the ultimate b*tch then. The book I'm currently reading Have a New Kid by Friday by Dr. Kevin Leman suggests you say it ONCE and if the child does not listen you shut it off and that's it walk away. The funniest thing I read in this book is that "an unhappy child is a healthy child. Your job as a parent is not to make your child happy. It's to raise a child who will be productive, responsible, and respectful member of society." I like this guy!!!

No, its not mean, in my opinion. Thats a daily conversation in my house! If I ask my child to do something and they don't listen, there is a consequence. Its appropriate discipline.

I am glad everyone agrees with me. Yeah I am definitely not going to move things out of his reach. He is 2.5 years old and thats old enough to know how to listen. I thought the way we handled it was normal but when you hear over and over again how mean you are I decided to ask here to see if the masses agree.

Thats exactly what I would do!
Although I'd probaby end up turning it back on 30seconds later when the child started getting into something else!

Nope. Right there with you. Now he knows the result of playing with the remote.
Good job!
