do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing? *ETA... which bouncer did you register for?
I keep hearing things about both...
I have ONE new mommy friend IRL and she said she never used the bouncy seat... so I was going off that, but now from all of these posts it seems like everyone is getting both.
Do I REALLY really really need them both?
Right now we're registered for just a swing.
We have a 2 bedroom apartment and not the most room in the world...
--
*Okay, you have me convinced!
Now which one did you all register for?
We do plan on having kids close in age (infertility permitting!) so are there any that are kind of neutral? Or should we just go with the one that matches our swing... the ocean something one??

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
Id say if you are in a 2 bedroom It may not be necessary. For me..it will get use when I can just take the bouncy in another room and put DC in it while I do something else, instead of keeping him in the swing on a different floor or too far in a different room. KWIM?

2 bedroom apt here too!!!! The only reason I am getting both is that hopefully he will like one. The bouncer you can leave at your parents and it's like 35 bucks.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
I think it depends onthe baby. My DD hated the bouncy seat and LOVED her swing. We never used the bouncy seat for DS (forgot we even had it since it was packed up) and DS also loved the swing.

We did both.....
We did register for the travel swing b/c like you...don't have all the room in the world in our living room for one of those crazy huge swings...
We did both b/c him/her might prefer one over the other. Plus I thought if I'm showering/cooking...I can put in bouncy seat right in front of me, while the swing, even travel sized is to big to move from room to room.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
Absolutely! Unfortunately you don't know what will/will not work for your baby. Some live in the bouncy, some in the swing. The bouncy IMO is shorter lived than the swing. If you want something that will last longer get the Newborn to Toddler Rocker. Same concept as the bouncy but will last till the baby is a toddler.
The swing is a must have (although some babies don't like it - the majority do)

This is exactly why I like the idea pf the bouncy...I can carry it anywhere I need the baby to be!

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
I registered for both. Hopefully the baby will like both so I can travel with the bouncer if I need to. I dont think I have that much on my registry anyway so I think for $40 or whatever it is its worth it.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
We registered for both as well... and we have a small 2 bedroom house. I am planning on keeping the swing in the bedroom and the bouncer will be in the living room... and who knows...baby may not like one of them so may as well be safe.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing?
I put the bouncy on the table the majority of the time. The swing obviously is on the floor. Register for both. You won't regret it, but you might if you don't.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing? *ETA... which bouncer did you register for?
We have the fisher price papisan. Please do not worry about batteries. Although it takes the big D ones I think we only used 2 or 3 sets. We have the fisher price rainforest bouncer (the one with the waterfall) IMO so much better than just the ones with no music or lights b/c it catches their attention from a much younger age before they can actually manipulate the toys.

I agree with this. My DD hated both at first... then after a few weeks the bouncy was the only place we could put her down. About a month after that, she decided she liked the swing and we used it for months - until she was too big for it.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing? *ETA... which bouncer did you register for?
DS has the FP Precious Planet bouncy and LOVES IT. He learned how to kick/punch the whale and make it make noise when he was about 3.5 wks old. I put 1 set of batteries in it before he was born and they're still working, 6 weeks later.
We had a travel swing on our registry and the first time we tried to use it, DS hated it. It doesn't have enough power to swing him enough. If we DO get another swing, it'll be full sized. I absolutely DO NOT recommend a travel swing.
Like you, we have a 2BR apt. That bouncy seat is carried to the bathroom when I'm showering, to my room when I'm getting dressed or folding laundry, and to the living room when DH and I are just watching TV.
My DS loves to be held, but we put him in the bouncy often to get him used to other things because obviously, we can't hold him all the time (although I'd love to!) and I don't want him to think we can. Like I said earlier, he loves it.
I haven't decided if we're going to buy a full sized swing. He's content without it so far.

Re: do we REALLY need a bouncy seat AND a swing? *ETA... which bouncer did you register for?
I did both and even registered for the travel swing wich a may return bc I feel like it is too much! If I did have limited space I would probably just do the swing. Most babies love their swing and most people I know highly recommended swings. The reason I have a travel swing too is bc at first that was the only swing I had on my registry, then everyone was like you have to put a regular swing!
