How many hours per day does your DC spend in a swing or bouncy seat?
DS loooooves being in the swing. He can spend 2 hours at a time in it happily sleeping. When I take him out to feed or change him, he'll start crying and the only way to make him stop seems to be to put him back in the swing. I can't help but think that spending 4-5 hours a day in a swing is too long. Another soother is his bouncy seat. In total, he spends probably 5 hours a day in either the swing or bouncy seat. Is this normal?

it sounds to me like he loves being cradled and held. he would probably feel the same way if you were carrying him in a sling.
IMO there is nothing wrong with it as long as he is also getting tummy time and face-to-face interaction with you. he's still a newborn, it's our job to keep them fed, warm and happy, that's all

The other 5 hours or so he is awake, he is held or playing with us. It almost seems like he prefers the swing at times!

We dont use either anymore, but we did not keep Abby in the swing or the bouncy seat for longer than a half hour at a time twice a day and that was only up until she was maybe 2 or 3 months old.

DD spends a good amount of time in her bouncy seat bc she loves it! We hold her alot, but she does not really take naps during the day, and at almost 16 lbs, she can get heavy!

My DS loves his swing. Sometimes I have a hard time getting him down for a nap in his crib so I put him in his swing!! He usually sleeps for 2 hours!! I feel bad but sometimes he gets really cranky and fussy and the swing relaxes him!

DS rarely naps during the day in his crib. He only falls asleep if he is in the swing, bouncy seat, or in our arms. If he falls asleep in my arms, within 5 minutes of putting him down, he wakes up again. The swing seems to be his favorite place to take a nap.

Same here....he falls asleep in my arms and after 10-15 min he is up if I try and put him in his crib!!

about an hour or two, DD loves her swing and takes her morning nap in there. I don't put her back into the swing after she wakes up from her nap.

Most days, never. Once in a while, when she gets cranky during her "witching hour" she'll take a 20 minute nap in the swing. However we can go up to a week without her being in the swing (she doesn't care for the bouncy seat)

Re: How many hours per day does your DC spend in a swing or bouncy seat?
I would say that DD is in her swing for as long as she is asleep in it - today she slept in itfor 2 hrs....she is in her bouncy i would say a total of about 2hrs a day....as long as your DC is happy, that's all that matters

Unfortunately Rylan hated the swing and bouncy. If it made him happy I would have let him spend 24 hours in there...I would have done anything to make the crying stop...lol.

DD hated the swing. I think she spent one hour total in her lifetime in that thing. Bouncy seat - maybe 15 minutes at a time when I needed to do something specific.

Re: How many hours per day does your DC spend in a swing or bouncy seat?
I personally think 5 hours in the swing is too much. Babies can't develop their motor skills if they are sitting in a swing/bouncer/carrier for long periods of time. I would get a noggin nest for sure so he doesn't develop a flat head.

Thank you so much for posting this! This wanting to sleep in the swing is a new thing so I'll try not to let him spend too much time in there. I knew it didn't seem healthy.

Re: How many hours per day does your DC spend in a swing or bouncy seat?
DS takes his naps in either his swing or his bouncer. He likes them both alot. Sometimes he will cry when being held and is much happier in his swing. Also, he is a big boy and gets pretty heavy. I need to put him down every once in a while. As long as your DS is happy and not crying, I see nothing wrong with him being in his swing/bouncer. I would never get anything done if I couldn't put him down. Oh and I have tried both the sling and the baby carrier and he is not a fan of either.

Re: How many hours per day does your DC spend in a swing or bouncy seat?
My DD hated the bouncy and swing, so I lost out on that. Now we use her bouncy seat as her feeding chair. It's so cute...like her recliner (the boppy bouncer)
