Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

Opinions? thoughts?

DH and I spent 2 hours in Home Depot picking out colors for the ENTIRE house using Behr paints.

Then our fathers, both in construction, say, "that's crap paint. get benjamin moore!" i do NOT want to go through picking all the colors again (I hate decorating Chat Icon ) and Behr is cheaper.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

Personally I think Behr is crap. It takes a lot of coats...and does not wash well at all!!!! I'd go with BM or Sherwin Willams.

Your fathers are rightChat Icon

It's not just a Donegal thing... BM is much better.Chat Icon

It costs a bit more but I've always used less coats of BM so to me it costs the same because time/my labor=money.

I once painted a room burgundy with Behr...
took about 6 coats... second floor... middle of the summer... no CACChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
BM would have taken me half that.

I've painted over 35 rooms... I've learned... my current home is all BM.

Benjamin Moore. Just take the swatches you picked from Behrs and try to match it to BM. HTH

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

Your fathers' are correct. Behr paint just does not do the same job that BM does. You can totally see the difference! We have only BM in our house. Plus I have found with friends & family that used Behr, the color on the swatch DID NOT match what came out on the wall!

we used BEhr when we did our bedroom, and its fine- i didn't think it was bad at all. BUT we just had our kitchen painted, and the guy uses BM... and you can definitely tell the difference! it just looks "richer" and smoother and comes out better.

We have both in our house. You can definately tell the difference.

BM looks smoother and richer.
It is expensive though.

Bring the color samples you picked to BM. I'm sure they have the same colors or can make them for you.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

I used Behr for my bedroom, and BM for all my rooms downstairs. My kitchen and bedroom are the exact same color---just one Behr, one BM (I guess I really like the color...I didnt even realize until I started painting my kitchen!) and I have to say the one in my kitchen looks much smoother, and it was sooo much nicer to paint.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

We did our condo with BM, and out house with Behr. We did Behr eggshell, and it washes well and took only 1 coat in most rooms. IMO, Behr was definitely worth it, esp. given that it saved us hundreds since we painted the whole house!

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

Actually its NOT more expensive. Because with Behr you will need to put several additional coats on PLUS you will need to paint again within the next 2-3 years because it chips, cracks, and discolors in a shorter amount of time.
Not to mention the aggrevation, i hate to paint so i rather do it once the right way then have to do it again.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

we have only used behr in our apartment - but when we get a house we are def trying out BM paint - i also think they have a better color selection than behr does.....

ive read a lot of reviews on paints and i think its worth trying BM out - i have a feeling we'll be able to see a difference

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

BM all the way. You will send less money and time in the end.

You can take the paint chips to BM and they will color match if they can. You might even find something similar that you like better. Just ask them for help with the chips you already have.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

I've used both.

they are the same to me.

and I've been advised that Behr is just as good by people in construction too...it's personal preference.

the paint in my LR still looks good 2 years later. (BEHR)

the paint in my bedroom looks good too (BM) just not any better than the living room.

ETA: if you use primer, you won't need a crazy amount of coats, and that is with any paint.

especially a tinted primer for dark/vibrant colors.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr

i actually love Behr over BM.

we have both in our house and i loved the way Behr's came out over the BM. i only had to use 2 coats as well using a dark color.

Your father is right! Behr is garbage paint! I work with paint all of the time, so I know this from experience! Definately go with BM!!!

We used to only use BM, but then we decided to give Behr a try and I have no complaints.
