Hospital gown or pjs?

I need to pack my hospital bag since I may have this week. I never bought any maternity or nursing pjs. I'm torn on whether I should just wear the hospital gown at night or pack some non-maternity pajama pants. There's a pretty good chance I'll be induced, which could always end up in a c-section.

What are you planning on wearing at the hospital at night?

someone said on here once what's the point of buying a gown if you're going to possibly ruin them with the bleeding after labor is done and overwith...that being said i'm not packing anything that will upset me if it's ruined.

I think hospital gowns are ugly, I would like to look as cute as possible...lol

I brought pajamas. Right after you deliver you will be bleeding ALOT. I wore the gown until the next morning when I took a shower and put on the PJ's I brought.
I wore a robe over it.

I just had my csection. To be honest, if you are using an epidural pump,. you won't be able to put any nightgowns on until that comes out (day 2 after the section.) So I stayed in my hospital gown until then and just wore loose pjs at night then.

there is NO way I would have worn that gown any longer than I had to!!! I didn't get blood on any of my regular clothes.

I haven't been on much and must have missed the post that you might go this week!

I had all intentions of wearing the cute pjs I bought after my c/s. The first full day the drs and nurses kept coming in all day to check my incision, change my pads, do stuff with my IV,etc. The next day I got out of bed and when I learned quickly how difficult it was to just put on undies I skipped the pjs and just continued to wear the gown. On the 3rd day the hospital gave DH and I a celebratory "champagne dinner" so I "dressed up" in my pjs that day. I found the gowns to be pretty comfy for bfing and I just threw my robe on when I had visitors

I wore the hospital gown while I was in labor and delivery during my 2 day induction. Once I had the baby I couldn't wait to get that thing off!!!! I brought really loos PJ pants with me and a t-shirt (with sports bra underneath b/c I didn't nurse). I was super comfy and I didn't look too shabby for pictures with family when they visited!

Also, I didn't bleed on any of my own clothes. I read on here about so many woman that bleed like crazy and, don't get me wrong, I bled after DS was born but it wasn't anything out of control.

I mostly wore the gown since you are bleeding. However, I wore a BLACK tank top nursing gown for when guests came

I would bring your own and then play it by ear. I ended using the hospital gown in the beginning (I had a section) but in the end I wanted my own stuff. This way you have a choice. Honestly the hospital gown was just fine and it is kind of messy anyway - but if you have visitors and want to look nice you can at least change if you bring your own things. You will want a robe though - for when you take walks around the floor.

i had my c-section in the morning. i wore my gown all day until i showered the next morning, then i put on pajama pants and a t-shirt (the pants were high enough that they didn't bother my incision at all.

ETA: although you do bleed a LOT for me, it wasn't the mess that some people described it as. i used the super large maternity pads and the mesh underwear and i never bled thru them - i just made sure to change the pads often.

With my 1st everyone told me to wear a gown....

I hated the gown... I hated feeling "open" down there...

The hospital gown was uncomfortable and I COULD NOT wait to take it off...

I had a c-section.. the first day/night I was in the hospital gown until the cathedar came out the next morning. At that point I showered, and wore REGULAR clothes during the day... (sweat suits) I wore BIG COMFY underwear and I brought POISE pads, since the hospital pads didnt stick to my underwear. The POISE pads are really like diapers so they absorb SOOO MUCH!!! You do bleed alot, but these worked best for me!

At night I wore PJ's....

Im not even packing a gown this time around!

ETA- Never did a drop of blood ever get on any article of clothing!

gown for the first day of delivering, after that- pj's. if you are going to BF i would recommend getting a nursing tank, shirt, or bra- it makes things a lot easier.

I wore the gown the day I had the c-section but the next morning I put pjs on and will be doing the same thing with DD comes.

i did the same thing with DD#2 that i did with DD#1...

i brought a button down nightgown (that was easy for breastfeeding) and robe. i wore it days 3 and 4 after the c-section. days 1 & 2 were easiest in the hospital gown. i could not have imagined PJ's cause at that point i could barely get my underwear on and off!

I gave birth at 1am...kept the hospital gown on until about 7 when I showered. For that first day I wore a black short sleeve cotton nightgown. Then I wore regular pj's in a bigger size.
I didn't get any blood on anything.

That first day the nurses check you down there a few times.

i suggest a gown (whether the hospital one or your own) because you're going to be wearing this HUGE pad down there for the first couple days (and the first day they also give you a cold pack). so things are a little bulky and you can sometimes see that through pants.

i bought a cute nursing nightgown and nursing pajamas, and found myself wearing the nightgown preferentially.

I wore nursing tank tops and the nurse gave me a few pairs of scrub pants that I wore. I did bleed through one pair so I'm glad I wasn't in cute pj's.

I couldn't get rid of the hospital gown fast enough. I wore yoga pants and tees the whole time and was comfy and felt better in my own clothes. Nothing got ruined.

I plan to bring some of my own stuff and play it by ear .........I'd be MUCH more comfortable in my own things and feel like 'myself' - but if I turn out to be one of those people who bleeds profusely, I'm not going to ruin my own clothes .........I'll just see how it goes -

I only wore the hospital gown until my first shower after birth. After that, I wore some dark maternity jogging suits during the day.

At night, I wore a nursing tank to bed, granny panties & those really comfy cotton goucho maternity pants. I changed a bazillion times a night. My night sweats were terrible! Just bring enough clothes to change often.

im no where near even thinking about this yet but just thought id share...

while i did my maternity rotation with school i asked a few of the moms what they prefered (it was part of my care plans for them) and most siad they "felt" better wearing their own stuff.. and as far as the bleeding and ruining your clothes.. PEROXIDE!!!! its a life saver it will remove blood from any type of clothes its great! bring a little bottle in your bag and if you notice something has blood on it put some on and it will be gone in no time! hope this helps!
