The other states are going through the same though so if you live someplace else it won’t be any different.

I guarantee you Florida will be open in Sept (or Aug or whenever they go back)
Guaranteed
They are already starting to open up the state.
This psychopath will keep us locked up until next June.

I guess they will have to see if their numbers go up as they did after spring break.

At this point I don't even give a fuk. At least they are trying. At least they have some sort of plan.
Staying locked up indefinitely until NOBODY not ONE PERSON gets the virus is not a plan.
Even if they get locked up again, at least I'll be in state with better weather, and better everything.
I've been wanting to leave NY since LONG before this nightmare but the leadership or lack there of throughout this disaster has only made we wish I'd done it sooner.
Ny is a shithole.

Exactly, and of course the numbers will go up. Just like with any illness when people become social once again. You take kids out of school the entire Summer, and once they start back, boom 2 weeks in and everyone has a cold. It's bound to happen. He has said all along this lockdown was to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed. Well, the boat went back to VA, no one in the Javits Center. So why are things slowly not opening now? Wait, now I know why. Because schools are closed, and no childcare. It's never ending. Yet, in CT they have many things starting to open. I'm over this all.

Yep. In CT restaurants with outdoor seating, zoos, museums, nail & hair salons, and retail, will all reopen on May 20th with limited capacity. Downstate NY will still be held hostage long after the other 49 states have moved on.

We, we will definitely be hopping on the ferry and visiting the outdoor entertainment facilities such as the zoo if our stuff doesn't open up. I thought he was working in conjunction with surrounding states, but it doesn't sound that way at all now!

Because they realize that if they wait for us, they will never get anywhere. I definitely plan on taking my children to the Beardsley Zoo, Mystic, etc. this summer. Especially since there will most likely be no beaches or pools.

The beach is still open now...at least Robert Moses is. My niece was there last weekend taking photos for an art project.

I'm ready to cry. This is awful news and totally unfair for the kids. I wish I did not live in this God-awful state. I hate NY!!

I don’t know what you expected? I think New York is the 43rd state to announce this, so pretty much every other state is already doing exactly the same thing.

Yeah I knew this was coming of course.
But seeing it in black and white just really drove it home.
And led me to a full on ugly cry sob fest for 20 full minutes.

No I get being upset—one of my daughters is a complete mess. I just meant more of the I hate New York mentality over this closing because most other states are also already closed unless you’re in Nebraska.

I think people are hating NY because there is no plan and people are in limbo. Yes schools are closing in those states but they also have plans to reopen.

I understand not wanting to give people false hope. But at this point there has to be me more of plan or direction, such as we will open schools in September. And then they have to make it happen. Some accountability, this two week with no updates or progress is just a way of NY not having to be accountable. I think that is why people are saying they hate NYC.

I wonder if Mystic Aquarium is part of the outdoor entertainment that will open on May 20th. We love the Beluga Whales there! I will have to dig further. Because come May 15th, I'm done!

I’m done next Sunday. I’m going to visit my sister for Mother’s Day!! Idgaf who has a problem with it. She’s been crying since yesterday because she can’t spend my birthday with me. Her mental and emotional state is more important to me than anything.

Everyone else can go scratch.

Don't blame you!!!!

Yes they are all open now, but once Summer hits and people actually want to lay on the beach and congregate...will it happen? Who knows! We go to the State beaches and they are empty, because most people don't want to sit in the 45 degree weather on a beach.

Do what's best for you. We are all grown adults who can decide the risks we are comfortable taking. We've seem to forgotten that as we are all locked up under dictator rule.
Good for you- enjoy the day. I am sure the mental rewards will outweigh the risks.

I knew this announcement would come, but it really made me sad for all the activities my DD will miss out on. I felt like crying. Even my DD was sad.

I'm one of those people that have always hated it from day 1 Chat Icon now I just can't even find any reasons to talk myself into staying anymore (awww you should be near family).

As for other people, I think you're right about why they're frustrated with all this.

Guys listen. All we can do is what is best for us. We have to take care of our mental health. If that means going out, going to the beach, seeing family. Just do it with caution. We have most of the deaths. NY is in bad shape. Things are getting better. That’s the positive here. We’ll get out of it eventually. Sending many virtual hugs to you all...

This is true. Almost all states have closed schools, because mothers should be taking care of kids and not working, obviously.

But let's face it, no one wants to live in Nebraska. I am livid beyond belief and would gladly send my DD to school this second if I could. I may actually try to find a program for her. I can't say I hate NY, though. Long Island I detest. But NY on a whole? Nah. Home is home.

I think we are going to end up moving eventually.
I can't live out the rest of my days in a state like this.
For many reasons.

Problem with that is our home values will begin to plummet now. I’m sooooooooo pissed we didn’t sell last year !!! So pissed. We would have been able to buy something outright in the Carolinas with the profit we could have made. Now? Scummed

Home values are not going to plummet. Have you seen the rental markets here? Long Island is one of the most desirable locations in the nation, that's not going to change because the gov decided to close schools till September.

Real estate in this God forsaken area of the country are tied to the school districts. No schools, no demand for houses. Who's going to buy a house with a $10K or $15K or $25K tax price tag for a couple of worksheets and some youtube videos with broken links? We've ALWAYS been FUKED, now it's just without lube.

You're basically paying a school tuition for nobody to attend.

For name recognition for starters. Harvard University is preparing to do online classes in the fall. Many other big universities are doing the same. Do you think they are going to see a significant decline in enrollment because a school might be online only for a few months? Chat Icon

And the real estate industry in Long Island is not totally tied to the districts. Proximity to NYC jobs with an area surrounded by water on three sides is the primary reason for the prices. Schools may be a close second, but even houses in the "bad" or "average" districts still sell.

My school taxes are ridiculous and my kid hasn't even been in the SD yet (starts in Sept.)

It is what it is. But I don't think the RE market is going to collapse from this.

The people I do feel bad for are the people sending their kids to expensive colleges and paying for dorms that they aren't using. 50-60k a year for housing. Ouch.

I really hope you're right! I fear another 2008 on the horizon the longer this goes on.

Yes! You're right about people paying for unused college dorms. I feel horrible for everybody in hardship situations right now. There has to be a better solution.

Even though I knew this was likely going to happen, it still stung to hear it. This is awful. I'm really trying not to go down a rabbit hole but this is NOT sustainable. As it is now, I have my kids being babysat by devices all day so I can work. That can't go on for too long! The thought of them not going back in September makes me freak out. I don't know what to do.

And really, I'm super bitter right now that instead of being outside enjoying this gorgeous day, I'm just kicking up my work day because I finally have my kids occupied and I can focus. This is terrible.

And here's the thing. OK schools are closed for the rest of the year. Fine - I expected it.
BUT they better be damn well using every second from today to September to be come up with a real PLAN and working on IMPLEMENTING that plan for them to go back in Sept.
Work on it day and fuking night.
I don't want to hear come Sept, well we aren't ready to open schools because it takes long to get the schools ready for this.
At that point it's negligence on the part of our state government.

I LOVE when people say this. Like it is so easy to leave your job and move out of state with your family. Many on here have stated they would love to move, but they can't right now.
I guess you are in the camp of "you are homeless, jobless, no food, suicidal, and being beaten by your spouse, but hey, YOU'RE NOT DEAD"
And what does Fauci & Cuomo leaking the virus out of a lab have ANYTHING to do with what anyone here is complaining about? Nobody has mentioned Fauci at all, and nobody said they think the virus was leaked in a Chinese lab.

Oh, and you say you are embarrassed to be an American? So why don't you move? BYE

Exactly.
I guess if you don't LOVE Cuomo you are the devil.
I guess if you don't LOVE this overtaxed, overpriced, run down state with crumbling infrastructure (have you seen the roads?) and blatant misuse of our tax money, you must be a psycho path who believes conspiracy theories about the virus.
Why don't you go hide in a bunker for the next 2 years then waiting for your precious, likely ineffective vaccine?
How about that instead of telling us to move?

Yeah this is an odd comment for someone whose profile says "embarrassed to be an American" to make Chat Icon

I actually wasn't sure if her comment was serious or not at first!
