Teeth/ dentist

My one son has no teeth, the other has 8 teeth that I knew of. This morning I come to find he also has 2 molars cutting! Is this normal? They will be 1 on Friday, 11 months adjusted. Do I take him to the dentist? My ped is on vacation and won’t be back until the 28th, I could wait to ask when she gets back but I would rather start trying to find a dentist for him now if it’s necessary!

Both my kids started getting their one year molars around the same time. Our ped recommends starting with the dentist at 2.5. A ped dentist will probably tell you a year but all they'll really do at that age is brush their teeth and talk about home care (brushing twice a day and not giving milk after brushing).

Re: Teeth/ dentist

I don’t remember when my DS got each of his teeth but our ped told us at 2 to see the dentist for the first time. I procrastinated because I was afraid he would have a tough time so took him at 2 1/2.

ETA: I was right, and he was very fearful of the dentist the first time.. though now at 4 he’s a champ.

I think the recommendation is 1 year. On his first birthday, he got his two bottom teeth. I took him to the dentist when he was just over 2 years old. He is now 3 and has gone 3 times. The first 2 times, he was scared. The last time, he was a champ!

Honestly, they barely do anything at the appointments before the age of 4.

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal" - kids get teeth early and some get them late. What's normal for your children is what's happening.

We didn't take DS to the dentist until he was about 4. We tried earlier and he wouldn't open his mouth and was hysterical. DD I'll try next fall, when she's 3.

At one year, DD had no teeth.
But i am quite sure the dentist would have LOVED to billed my insurance company to look at her gums.

We took her at 5. It was fine. No cavities at that point and at least i felt they were doing something.

We took DSs at 3 as per our dentists rec (and I procrastinated so it was more like 3.5).

It is normal to cut multiple teeth at once. And after the 4 top and 4 bottom front, the molars are typically the next ones in. Eye teeth come in next and then the two year molars last (until they get more molars around 5).
