I have a spinoff question to the first dentist thread...

At what age did you start using toothpaste to brush their teeth? Not sure if I'm late to the game on this -- DD is almost 17 months...

I started once she got teeth. My dd is 17 months now and I have her brush them herself while I brush mine. It's become a routine for us.

I got the elmo finger brush and toothpaste and brush my son's teeth whenever I remember/whenever he lets me.

He's six months and has two teeth.

14 months, but I'm pretty sure dd just tries to lick off the strawberry banana toothpaste. It's more to get her used to it as part of her bedtime routine.

When she got her first teeth around 5 months. She's 2 now and we still use the baby/toddler toothpaste.

We started using fluoride free toothpaste around a year or so. My older 2 are now 4.5 and 2.5 and still haven't mastered swallowing so we still use the fluoride free.

DS is 19 moths old and strong willed. We've been giving him a tooth brush for many months now, but he refuses to let us brush his teeth. Instead, he does it himself...ie: sucks the toothpaste off the brush, then asks for more water to such off the brush. Then he's done.

For both boys with training toothpaste around a year or a drop less. Older DS didn't use fluoride toothpaste till about 4.5 - 5 bc he couldn't get the spitting. Practiced getting those Dixie cups to rinse and now he's fine. My 2 yr old is still using training toothpaste.

Fluoride toothpaste at 3.

Eta: non fluoride toothpaste and brushing from about 8 mos.

Early! I would say I started brushing dd's teeth with a finger brush at 12m. Maybe less

Thanks all. I've been doing the finger brush since she was about 5 months or so to get used to the routine. She likes to suck the water off the brush which is cute and gets excited when I say let's brush your teeth! Looks like I need to get some toothpaste in the works!
