Two teeth...now what? Dentist?

DD will be 7 months next week and has 2 teeth. When do they start going to the dentist? I know to wipe her teeth and gums with a wet washcloth, but should I start brushing her teeth with baby toothpaste?

Re: Two teeth...now what? Dentist?

Just brush her teeth. Usually at night and if you can after the bottle and b4 bed to get the sugar off.
Although most babies have a bottle right b4 bed so that doesn't matter

Plenty of time b4 the dentist. About 2.5 - 3 yrs old when they have pretty much all their teeth in. Some kids don't even get all their teeth till after 1.
For now the Ped will just check her mouth and make sure everything looks good

Re: Two teeth...now what? Dentist?

DS is 15 1/2 months and has 12 teeth. I called the pediatric dentist my DD sees to make a cleaning appointment for her and asked them. They said to just make sure he takes his vitamins (with floride) and to brush his teeth at least before he goes to bed, but the recommend after meals/milk. They said they typically recommend an initial appointment between 18 months and 2 years. They also suggested I start to look at his teeth, and count them and put my fingers in his mouth without biting me so he gets used to some of the things they will be doing there.

When he was still on bottles I would make sure to stil brush them even if he was asleep because I didn't want it sitting on his teeth/gums all night.

I think the new rec. is to see the dentist around a year. So I would wait a few months!

Re: Two teeth...now what? Dentist?

yeah, the recommendation is first visit around a year (one of my closest friends is a ped. dentist) but most people don't go until 2-3. you should be brushing regularly though.

Yea the new AAP recommendation is a year. But you should definitely start brushing. No toothpaste though, just water.

Re: Two teeth...now what? Dentist?

DS has two teeth, I don't see the necessity to go to the dentist yet. We have one of those finger brushes w/the brush on one side and bumps on the other. He looooooves it.

Way too early for a dentist.
Just brush them with flouride free toothpaste.

My friend is a pediatric dentist. She says start to brush when there are 4 teeth on top and bottom. She did not feel it was necessary to go to the dentist til he was 2.

My kid is slow with teeth. At 17 months... He only has 2 bottom and 4 top.

The recommendation is 1 year assuming they have teeth. .Chat Icon I took DS at 2 yrs but he only had a few teeth. We are taking DD next mth. She will be 14 mths and has 10 teeth. I started brushing DD when she was 6 mths old. She is a good sport about it and wants to do it. I started early bc I was late brushing DS teeth. At 4 he fights me EVERY morning and night about brushingChat Icon

Start with the finger brush and the floride free toothpast...it's easier

i'll probably take DD soon. She's 13 months. She had 4 on top, 4 on bottom until recently but is now getting top AND bottom molars at once! We brush twice a day.
