E-cigs update
I started a new job about a month ago, which I share an office with someone, it's two cubicals in the office with a high wall between them, so to see each other we actually have to get up- just to give you an idea of how our office is setup. My coworker smokes an ecig in the office everyday, which I find strange cause to me it's as if your actually smoking in a building electronic or not, and it seems like the company is ok with this stuff because there's another person that walks around doing it.
Here's the issue, the smell of it is starting to really bother me and I feel like when I leave I smell like the smoke, I don't smoke, I don't want to smell like it. What would you do?
Thanks
Update Just wanted to give you an update, I spoke with my Mgr and she went to HR and they are working with the legal dept to make a company wide rule for them to be banned in the office, which will go out in a few days

Ugh..complain to HR! Who knows what you're breathing in. Plus--they can set off the fire alarm! It happened in my building and we had the fire department show up. Fun times.. Many companies have no E-cig policies in place--definitely check!

Re: E-cigs
My co-worker does this, too, and it irks me. And at least she has the decency to go into the ladies' room to do it- just like in high school! I'd speak to HR about it. I know there's kind of a limbo right now on whether e-cigs should be allowed to be smoked indoors or not, but I don't think that makes it ok.

I was at an indoor concert in Pennsylvania a few weekends ago, and the amount of people vaping inside was ridiculous. I said to myself, they look like adults with pacifiers.

Re: E-cigs
agree go to HR. Not acceptable i'd flip my shit.
I went to admin to complain about some students we have at our office smoking right outside the front door of the building, I mean next to the door, so I had to walk through a cloud to get in and I was mad as hell. They gave them the warning to get away from the entrance of the bldg.

I'm sure there's going to be more research on these things and it's going to be discovered that they're just as horrible as cigs. Id mention something to the person and if nothing changes I'd go to HR.

ITA. I was annoyed yesterday as a woman was sitting at the park I was at with my kids, smoking one on the bench (with lots of kids all around)

Have you spoken to your coworker? I think, personally, I would say something to her first, before making a big issue with HR. If, after speaking with her, there is no change, then I would bring it up to HR.

My coworker is not the get along with others to make peace type of person- I can tell that and my Mgr has made that known to me also cause they have a hot/cold relationship all depending on my coworkers mood that day- I know crazy. I have no issues with her, except for the smoking in my area

Under those circumstances, I would ABSOLUTELY bring it to HR's attention.

Definitely just speak to HR so that it can be told to her anonymously. If you share space with her you definitely want to "keep the peace". If you bring it up to her and then a few days later HR speaks with her about it she'll know you complained which will be awkward. Just go to HR first and let them handle it.

This isn't Mad Men - there's no smoking in the office. e- cig or not ..........and god only knows what you're breathing in from those things. I hate them.
She needs to take that thing outside as if it were the real deal .......
I agree with speaking to HR.

Re: E-cigs
As someone else mentioned, someone in my office also set off the fire alarm from an E-cig. They do not belong inside an office. I would put an end to that ASAP.
