Newborn not sleeping well

DS is 5 weeks old and since day one has not slept well. I have tried everything I can think of (swing, swaddled, bath, etc) and nothing seems to help. He takes 20 minute naps (if that). At night he gets up every 2 hours on the dot to eat and if I try to get him back to sleep its a huge ordeal. He cries so intensely and I know it's because he is tired, but nothing I do seems to work

I have his doctors appointment in 2 weeks, should i make a call sooner regarding this? Please tell me this will get easier, especially since I will be returning to work when he turns 12 weeks.

Totally normal. DD was exactly the same way. I remember being so confused because I thought all newborns did was sleep...not my kid. But, at about 2 months old she started STTN. Be patient-it gets better.

Have you tried on an incline? Like the fp rock n play ?

is he def tired? i mean its not gas or anything

My DS cried 24/7 for the first 8 weeks and the it slowly got better

Thank you everyone for the support. DS's doctor requested I change his formula to soy since we initially thought he was gassy (which he was) and that's been working somewhat better but he still cries intensely. I've already tried the rnp and he'll stay in it for a few minutes and then cry. The one thing I have not tried yet is to wear him. Ill give that a try and hope for the best. Hopefully this is just a phase and nothing more serious (I'm scared that he might be in pain, but when I spoke with the dr during our last visit he said this happens and tends to be normal).

Is he hungry? Dd was eating every 2 hrs and crying. I thought 6 ozs was to much for a 8 week old but as soon as I upped her she's been better. Dd1 never we t more than 6 oz Im her bottle for the whole yr so I thought It would be to much. We tried soy and hated it. Didn't help us much.
We also put her Zantac and that has helped

Does he use a pacifier? What about sleeping on his belly? Even if he does it for his naps during the day so you could watch him, he might like belly sleeping better. You don't have to do it at night if you are too nervous. Do you use gas drops with his bottles? How much is he eating? My DD is 1 month old today and eats like a horse. She has 4-5 oz. every 3-4 hour during the day and if she doesn't get enough she cries. Maybe that's another reason why he is crying. If all else fails, what about having him sleep on you? I know that will be hard to do all the time, but this phase will pass. You just have to wait it out.
