Progesterone Injections?
Does any one have experience with progesterone injections?
Any side effects or reactions?
I'm supposed to get the first dose at my appointment tonight.
I'll do anything to keep these babies cooking longer.

Re: Progesterone Injections?
I used them for the 1st 12 weeks. I was on Endometrion. WARNING... If you are using this, wear a pad or liner. Lots of discharge. TMI I know but its true. The first day I had no clue and felt like I was going to leak through my pants. Good Luck.

Is that an injection or a suppository?
I was using prometrium suppositories before my cerclage and agree about the liners.
I'm getting the injectable form now. I thought it would be different.

Re: Progesterone Injections?
The anticipation is worse than the shot. Just try to relax your leg on the side they are injecting. First one is the worst- you will be ok! I wouldn't expect any side effects. I actually preferred it to the suppositories! Good luck

Thanks so much. I'm glad to hear that you preferred it. I had sow cramping/irritability with the suppositories. Nothing major at all though.
You'd think I'd be used to needles and that stuff after IF!
The injections are supposed to be more effective for PTL and cervix issues ... here's hoping!

Yup my OB is doing another Progesterone injection study to prevent preterm labor. I was going to join, but having taken the supps in the 1st 12wks disqualifies you. They are really pushing for me to start them at my next appointment too, but it's up to my insurance company. From all the research we did before we joined the study it's already FDA approved for this and it's the new standard of care in women with early preterm labor concerns, or women with a hx of preterm labor. Let us know how you do!

Thanks for the info Lindi, I really appreciate it.
My insurance doesn't automatically cover it because I'm pregnant with twins. We thought that was strange, but who can figure out insurance companiesmthese days!
We paid out of pocket for it and will try to get reimbursed. It wasn't a lot - about $130 for a 10 mL supply which is 10 weekly doses.
I'm 25 weeks and I'd love to get to use all 10 doses!

Re: Progesterone Injections?
I used PIO every night for the first 10 weeks. They really aren't that bad at all. Consider youself lucky that your doctor gives them to you and not your husband with very shaky hands I am guessing you will have one a week so the side that gets the shot will be kind of sore and might be a bit lumpy, but not that bad at all. Good Luck!!!

Re: Progesterone Injections?
I used pio from 5weeks to 7 weeks. And suppositories before and after that. I used a heating pad after the injection was done and applies arnica to the area. I was sore for a while and still get itchy in the injection area.
Good Luck

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important detail....ice, ice, ice - both before and after. I found t really helped site from hurting afterwards.

Re: Progesterone Injections?
I did the injections from about 20 weeks on. It really wasn't as bad as I anticipated. I didn't ice, but one thing I found that helped me a lot is I would go for a short walk after (even if I just did laps around my house)--I feel like my midwife said it would help it work its way around and not as sore. My nurse was excellent, she alternated hips each week and gave the shot nice and slow. Other then some mild soreness I really didn't have any other side effects. Feel free to FM any questions.

Me too! I recommend if you can massaging the area the PIO is injected into after the shot. It helps disburse it since the liquid is so thick. Otherwise, you wind up up with huge lumps.
They are literally a pain in the a$$. but we do whatever we can for these babies, right?
