anyone have stair rods with a runner

We're doing a runner on our stairs bc they're fully wood and just wanted a bit more padding for the kids to run up and down...we wanted to do stair rods but here's the dillema. All our door hardware is oil rubbed bronze..but the stair case isn't really near any doorway..Also the railing for right now is wrought iron..we may change it to wood and wrought iron or all wood at some point, but not sure when...the runner we picked out looks awful with oil rubbed bronze stair rods...and looks amazing with the gold ones..the carpet guy thinks I"m being nit picky and that it's not going to clash...he's not making any money off of me of the stair rods bc we're buying them from somewhere esle...so I guess he's being hones, but just wanted to hear other opinions....

Thanks!

Do you have pics? I would probably do the oil rubbed bronze but I don't know what the carpet looks like and the visual I'm getting of gold rods is not a good one lolChat Icon

I didn't do the rods because I thought the oil rubbed bronze would get lost on my dark runner and I'm not a fan of the polished brass-I think they are dated looking. Plus we have an 80lb dog and I think it would just add to the dog hair collection Chat Icon

I don't have pics Chat Icon The runner that is a very light blue with the typical floral pattern. I've attached the link to the rug of it...baddddd color quality though...
The walls are beigeish (BM putnam ivory) and I put the oil rubbed bronze next to the rug at the store and it just looked too hard with it if that makes sense...

Do you HAVE to get the rods?

I would opt to not getting them in all honesty..

Here's my staircase without rods. I think if you're conflicted it might be better to leave them plain.

Nay to the polished brass. If I had to pick it would be dull brass this but even still I feel like it's a dust/dog hair collector. And it wouldn't match the metals(dorrknobs etc) and that would irk me LOL Save the money for another project!

I have a runner with no rods. Not a fan of the stair rods, I think its a rather dated/traditional look.

Re: anyone have stair rods with a runner

I love the rods but I do not have them because my dad was in the carpet and oriental rug business for over 20 years and he hates them. He talked me out of them when I was purchasing the runner but I may still want to add them. I just want to let you know that it seems that a lot of people in the carpet business just do not like them. I would wait until you know what you are doing with the railing.
