Would you switch peds?
Let me start by saying I love my pediatrician and the whole staff. when I was BFing he kept me calm and I never overreact when DS is sick. DS, who is a daycare baby, is 7 months and has had a cold and cough for over a month. but this is like the 3rd time. in my mom's words...he thinks this is how it should be. like he's never without a cold or cough.
my ped is very laid back (i use Dr. Silverstein in Merrick). I think he's a great doctor, but he doesn't seem to be treating DS's cough. Last time (2 weeks ago) he noticed white spots on DS's throat, but it wasn't strep. he said to just give yogurt (cause its cold and soothing) and to wait it out. he said antibiotics wouldnt help.
2 weeks later I now hear the cough in his chest and when he breathes. he wakes up coughing and it sounds like if he threw up it would be so much better. personally i agree that it needs to be waited out, but my mom and sister are giving me guilt saying he's suffering while we're waiting. he's still a happy baby, but he coughs. if you go into his daycare you'll hear the other kids with the same cough.
my sister uses seaford pediatrics and they just changed their policy this year to allow new patients without newborns. she wants me to switch because she thinks her ped would have treated DS differently. no offense to anyway who uses them, but I feel theyre the opposite of my ped and are very strict. (from what i hear from my sister). like if i was going there i would panic if DS sneezed cause something major is wrong.
sorry this is so long, but i just want to make sure im doing whats best for DS. i called my ped an hour ago to see if i should bring him in again or keep waiting it out. the nurse said she would speak to him and get back to me. id hate to bring him in (pay a co-payment) for him to just tell me, theres nothing we can do for a 7 month old and we have to wait this out.

If you are happy then don't switch. don't listen to anyone else. If you are comfortable that's all that matters. Trust your instincts.
I do use Seaford Ped and love them..not sure what you mean by strict though?

maybe strict is the wrong word. i feel like they feed into my sister's neuroticism. lol shes afraid to do anything with my nephew (granted he's only 1 month). when i try to tell her its ok to bring him to my house and outdoors, he tells her its not. so we basically don't have the say outlook on things.

I also think it's how their advice is perceived, KWIM They told me not malls and restaurants until his first shots..not "don't go out at all" KWIM

yeah they are totally not like that! (from my experience anyway)
But really if you are happy and you feel your son is getting the best possible care.. don't worry about it. I like that your ped isn't throwing antibiotics at him!!!

If you are happy with the ped, I wouldn't switch.
I can't imagine the other practice doing more - unless there's an infection, I don't think there's much you can do medically for a cough.

Re: Would you switch peds?
I wouldn't switch over this. Coughs really can linger for weeks. And it's most likely viral, so there isn't any treatment he can really prescribe. Better a doctor who takes a wait-and-see approach than one who pushes antibiotics when there's no true reason for them!

ditto. If there is no infection, no doctor could do more.

if the other daycare kids have the same cough, I wouldn't worry too much.

If you are happy, then don't switch.
My DC had a cold (and so did I) off and on for about 2 months. Its especially hard in daycare when the kids are passing things back and forth to each other.

I agree. No fever, NO other symptoms, there is not much more they can do. You could always go back to your ped, tell them that you are really worried, and ask them to send you to an allergist to make sure that the cough is not asthma related, but from what I know of asthma and allergies, they do not appear till about 12 - 18 months.
