UV gel manicure ?
what is this exactly?? is it like getting fake nails put on?
i asked my nail lady where i go and they dont do them, but she said its like getting acrylics put on

it's a gel that gets applied like nail polish
anyone that says it doesn't mess up your nails- hasn't taken it off yet
my nails were pretty wrecked after- just like any wrap or acrylic

I have been getting a UV Gel manicure for about 3 years now, before that it was acrylics and before that wraps. I am sure that my nails underneath are totally destroyed, but I like the way my hands look with nails, so I keep doing it.
UV gel is a process, they apply a couple of different gels and you put your hands under a UV light which hardens the gel...whether you do a french or have a color put on, it lasts at least 2 weeks I sometimes don't go back for 3 weeks, no chipped nail polish...its great.
They have this new thing the OPI Gel manicure which I don't believe is as harsh to your nails, the next time I go to my nail salon I am going to ask...

Good to know. I swore to myself that I would NEVER get acrylic again after it took me 8 months to get my nails back last time. I was debating on getting the UV for my brothers weddings. I think I'll just get a manicure now!!

I had the OPI gel manicure for a few months and just stopped doing it because I didn't have time to get them filled. There is no real way to get them off except filing them down or growing them out. The place I went filed them down so they were pretty thin and then I am just growing the rest out.

ahhh..thanks. i'll just stick with the mani's. i lost 2 fingernails already from an infection and they are just now starting to grow back fully. i dont need any fake crap on them.

This was me. I swore I would never get acrylics again, after having them on for many many years, my nails were shot. I had a temporary lapse of sanity last month and decided to get the UV gel, thinking they weren't as bad. Boy was I wrong. I took them off and my nails are shot again. I have to wait for several months till the damaged part grows out now

I just had the OPI gel done twice so the polish has only been removed once, but the place I went in the city soaked them off. Then she used an orange stick to chip away what was left and used the buffer to finish off - no real filing involved. I had permanent french wraps done for my wedding and they wrecked my nails, but I think OPI is so much better and my nails actually feel stronger. I keep them very short and love that the color lasts two weeks.
My sister had the uv gel done over regular polish (no the OPI gel) on Friday and it was chipped by Sunday.

The OPI Gel Manicure-I havent taken it off yet, but now im scared to! I hope my nails arent weak :(

Me too!!! It destroyed my nails and I only did it for about 2 months!!! Never again!!! Back to regular mani's.

I did it too. It ruined my nails as well. Taking off the gel was like taking off acrylic.
I also paid a fortune for it. If I recall correctly it was about $75 for a fill in, and about $95 if I needed new white tips (every other visit). The appointments always lasted over an hour too. The girl did a fantastic job, but I wouldn't do it again.
