Stupid Idea or No??

em's teething on top and shoving her hands in her mouth SOOOOOOOOOOOO much - i worry she's going to cut herself on her bottom teeth (those things are insane sharp).

we gave her a pacifier yesterday and she was very happy with it - sucking, playing, biting...but after about 15 minutes - went back to anything else...

was this a stupid idea? the whole time i kept wondering if this was moronic..... she has never been a pacifier kid...

I'd try a teether instead for 2 reasons. First, if she hasn't taken to one by now, why try to get her to take it? Second, my DS wasn't too attached to a pacifier, but I took it away when he started teething, because I didn't want him chewing on it or pulling it out of the base with his teeth.

honestly, I wouldn't worry about her "cutting" herself. Kids knawing on their fingers/hands is totally normal. Teething is a normal part of growing up. Trust me, if it was hurting her, she wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't give the paci to soothe teething.

No, it's not stupid. But at the same time you don't want to get her hooked if you can avoid it. First off, they have special teething pacifiers called raspberries (or maybe it's spelled razzberries...) that are kind of too big to suck on but they're bumpy and great for them to bite on. DS doesn't use pacifiers any more but will chomp away on these when teething. Also, have you tried those teethers you can put in the freezer?

i have never heard of razzberries - SO going to find them this weekend! thank you!

Re: Stupid Idea or No??

DS prefers his teethers thawed out, he likes to chew on the rubber. He also like to chew on wet washclothes, board books, blocks....
