Here's an idea-maybe a stupid one regarding campaign spending
I saw on TV the other night that McCain is spending 75M mil a DAY(and who knows what on his robocalls) and Obama 114 mil a DAY on smear commercials. Now has anyone been influcenced by these commercials? Has it made you change your vote? Imagine if they put that money toward the national debt...or a specific cause.
My idea was that they each be allowed 2 or 3 hour long sessions where questions were collected via the internet and chosen by lottery to be answered by the candidates-sort of like a town hall meeting without the audience.
Doesn't this make so much more sense than spending those insane amounts of money on advertising?

I like that idea. The commercials are useless. We don't see as many in NY - I just visited my sister in VA and every other commercial was an Obama or McCain ad. that said nothing of interest, just attacking each other!

Exactly-I mean does no one see the irony in this that the country is headed for a depression(yeah I said it!) and they are spending almost 200 mil a day to b!tch each other out!

Re: Here's an idea-maybe a stupid one regarding campaign spending
DH and I live in a swing state right now. We get something in the mail almost daily, I get daily e-mails from my "candidate" and tonight DH got a call on his cell from someone encouraging him to go door to door.
There are a lot of political commercials but we usually DVR everything and fast forward through them. We are both already decided and they will not change our vote. I hate seeing negative ads from either side and they just frustrate me.
I wish candidates didnt have to spend so much on campaigning to have a real shot at the presidency. Hopefully this spending is helping the economy somehow?
