When did you stop breastfeeding?
I just went back to work today and My DS is 3 months old. I want to BF till 6 months but not sure I will be able to keep up with pumping at work.
Am I terrible if I stop when he is only 4 months old?
If I make it any tips on how to keep yourself going, with carrying everything you need on an hour train ride and scheduling meetings around pumping.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
You are not terrible if you decide to stop when you return to work! The fact that you've breastfed for as long as you have is commendable!
I just stopped breastfeeding. DS is almost 16 months old. I have been trying to wean him forever with no luck. I cut down to one feeding last week and then DS got sick. That was it for us. It's been 4 days.
There were many times when I wanted to quit. I pumped twice a day at work every day and also once at home. I struggled with the pump. I felt like a slave to it many times. However, knowing what i was doing for my son and seeing how much he loved the breastmilk really got me through it. I felt proud of myself each day that I pumped. It's tough lugging all that gear but it just became second nature to me.
I work in a school as a therapist and it wasn't always easy to pump. I pumped whenever I could and tried to build it into my schedule.
Good luck and be proud of yourself for going this long!

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I stopped upon returning to work at 3 1/2 months. I was exclusively pumping and could not continue when I returned to work. So I can not offer advice on how to pump at work.
IMO you would not be terrible. You have to do what works for your family.

you are not terrible to stop at all no matter what the age or the circumstance. i can totally relate. i BF'd my first child to almost 10 months but mostly b.c i was home for that time which made it so easy. this time i went back to work when DS was 4.5 months old and wanted to give up right away b/c i hate pumping so much! the ONLY reason i have been able to stick with it is b/c i only have to pump once a day at work and i get enough for his bottles with that pumping session.. if i had to do it more i don't think i could. if you are commuting and have to do it a lot it might be tougher. it's more of an inconvenience more than anything. i have just recently been supplemementing with formula when DS turned 6 months. i am only planning on doing this til he's 9 months. i think you can try it if you want and see if it works for you. if not, don't beat yourself up. it's beyond tough and there is nothing wrong with FFing your child at all! as long as you and your child are happy and your child is being nourished there is nothing wrong with it at all! good luck! i know it's hard!
eta another reason i can pump is b/c i have my own office and multiple "breaks" where no one is bothering me. again ,if not for that then NO way could i do it!

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I'm with you on this! I just went back to work when DD turned 12 weeks old. I pump 3 times while I'm at work, and I don't produce a lot in the first place. I also pump 1-2 times at home and nurse her at night. I also commute an hour each way! I have to go to the 15th floor to HR to pump when I work on the 22nd floor. We only have glass offices on the 22nd floor.
I've only been back to work for 2 weeks. I am trying to pump till she is 6 months old. Here is how I get through it. I look at pics of DD on my cell phone and go on the internet/facebook etc from my phone. I also bring the baby 411 book to read. I basically tell myself I get 3 15 min. breaks during the day that I get to think about my DD and not be interrupted by work stuff. Its mine and my baby's time. So far so good. But when I think about doing this for 3 more months I get overwhelmed. Just take one day at a time! I'm with you! Remember you aren't alone.

Both times at around 6/7 months. DS was when I went back to work- I couldn't find the time to pump. It was so sad.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I stopped at 11 months. I had gone back to work when DD was almost 9 months. I had cut down her BF sessions to just 2 a day, then she got sick and I knew it was just time.
For me, I knew I could not handle the stress of going back to work/pumping at work/working full-time/commuting/and every other stress that comes along with being a full-time working mom. Kudos to you for trying to make it work.
You have done a great thing, try not to be hard on yourself, no matter what your decision.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I only could do a month and then pumped for a month after that
You have to do what works for you, and don't let anyone (or yourself) make you feel badly about it

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I pumped for 1 year- Molly could not latch properly and I had a very poor supply for many weeks. But I pumped her full needs for 1 year.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I make myself take 3 15-minute breaks a day, once every 3 hours give or take.
everything is planned around them.
I've been getting A LOT of reading done. I've been doing this for 9 weeks. I came back when my son was 6 weeks old. I don't have a set "done by" date. I want to do it for as long as my supply allows.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
I did 6 months with both girls. I was off the whole time with Yael, but with Alex I went back to work at 10 weeks. The best thing to do, if you're going to pump at work, is get a REALLY good pump, and a hands-free bra so you can close your door to your office and still get work done while you're pumping.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
Thanks everyone. I am going to give it one day at a time. Its just so hard carrying commuting pumping working and being mom!!
I miss him so much i just wish i could be home BFing him rather then pumping but my career is important to.
I am just having an emotional day because its my first day back at work.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
It is great that you did it at all...and for months is great!
BUT just to let you know you can also do the whole pump thing...I exclusively pumped (mostly) and I eventually "trained" my body to make enough milk in only three pump sessions...It was every two hrs then a month later, three, month later four..etc...
At about 6-7 months (I think) I would breastfeed in the morning ...pump at about 1130 am 4-5ish then 11 pm rt before I went to bed! I would pump about 4-5 oz from each breast which was 2 feedings! So if you pumped right before work and maybe once at work and then once you get home...
you can do it!
I only suggest this bec it sounds like you dont want to stop...I did this for a year with BOTH my DCs
good luck with whatever you decide!

Agreed!
Robbie weaned somewhere around 15 months? Noah was just about a year. I'm at work so I'm not 100% sure but that's pretty close.
I was lucky enough to have a desk job with Robbie initially.. I just excused myself when I needed to pump. I made sure not to accept meetings that would conflict with my pumping schedule. I quit after a few months though.. so it became even easier. With Noah, I was unemployed until he was 5 months. When I went back to work it was at a job that was close to my mom's house. I would go there and feed the baby at lunch. I pumped in my car whenever I felt a little engorged beyond that. I didn't want to let my boss know I was pumping because I thought he was odd.

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
10 months. I pumped enough at work to give to DD while I was gone during the day, and then BF her first thing in the morning and last thing at night. At 10 months, she decided that she'd had enough and I was more than happy to oblige!
Congrats to you for going this long!!

Re: When did you stop breastfeeding?
We made it to 13 months. But, I was/am a SAHM which makes a huge difference!
I think any amount of time is perfect for you and your LO. For as long as you can give it to them they will benefit. And there should never be any guilt when you decide its time to stop.
Great job!
