Who would you vote for #2
Presuming it's Clinton V. McCain
ETA: If you wouldn't vote, or if you're crossing party lines..why?

Don't worry..even if we wanted social programs, we won't afford them under McCain since we'll be in iraq for 100 years!

My original statement wasn't made in support of McCain, it was made against Clinton. There's a difference.

This is just one reason I don't like her. But some people still support it NOW. That I cannot understand.
but neither side makes sense right now it's all political
Republicans: The war was a good idea. We need to stay there "as long as it takes" or the "terrorists win"
Democrats: The war was a mistake. We need to get out of there as soon as possible.
#1 is just unrealistic. I can't vote for anyone who can't acknowledge what a collosal mistake that was and the needto reverse the damange we've done in the world and to our standing in it
While #2 sounds pretty awesome to me, it's also unrealistic. We completely tore apart a country, we can't leave it in shambles. We have a moral obligation to rebuild. We also messed up the balance of power in the middle east and we can't leave the country in shambles because then it *will* be a threat.
I want someone to say "yes, it was a collosal mistake and we are obligated to do all we can to fix the mistake"

Re: Who would you vote for #2
To me, it is a tough call regarding the war, because if you remember Bush had some pretty compelling (albiet false and contrived) information supporting the WOMD that supposedly were being harboured by Saddam. Clinton, with others who did originally support Bush in entering into Iraq to search for and destroy WOMD, have since admitted that they were lied to and regret believing the hype around WOMD.
The fact is that we are in a war, and a war that is turning out in a way that most did not forsee. Last time the US was in the middle east, we had more support from the UN and basically went in, kicked a$$ and came home. This is obviously not the case this time, but of course back in 2001 GWB made it seem like it would be a repeat performance of Desert Storm. What I think is now important is to be realistic about the war, and an exit strategy.
Let's face it, many people in society supported the war in the beginning for the same reasons the politicians did.

Yeah, but I didn't believe Bush's WMD bullcrap and I supported the UN. Shouldn't a president be at least as smart as I am?

Yeah, but I didn't believe Bush's WMD bullcrap and I supported the UN. Shouldn't a president be at least as smart as I am? I did not believe it either, but IMO it is easy to be an armchair QB. Although from the very beginning I compared it to Vietnam, and suspected that Bush was being dishonest and trying to maintain and pursue his own interests, I am not certain that I would have not voted for what may have appeared to be in the best interest of my constituents. I think it is a tough call.
And yes, a president should be so lucky as to be as clever as you

Re: Who would you vote for #2
McCain, although he is "FOR" the war, he'll know how to clean up the mess and get out. Hillary is not ready to run the Whitehouse, she needs more experience. Regardless, Mc Cain was always my 1st choice, a POW is resilient and steadfast in my opinion.
