Found mouse droppings in the house
Can anyone recommend a good exterminator? Mouse droppings were found in the playroom of my parents' house. Edited to add- they're south shore Western Suffolk.

I would just look for gaps in the foundation and then put out traps.

I agree with prev poster. We had one in our house and had an exterminator come out. He recommended a monthly service for them to set up traps and they would check them monthly. I could so that myself for much cheaper.

I also agree with the above. You need to find the source and fill in any holes. Without doing that, you will never solve the problem.

We just found droppings also! I didn't realize what it was at first and now I'm totally disgusted bc I'm seeing them more places (bathroom, drawers, den). We put out traps and are doing a massive cleaning!

someone might be building in the area if you notice an increase
Please DO NOT USE GLUE TRAPS OR poison, both are extremely cruel ways to die.

Yes! Use the balance traps and let them go after they are caught. You could also just get a cat.

We just had the same issue. It was 1 mouse but after trying to catch him for 2 weeks, we called an exterminator. I believe we called team pest control in Hauppauge. He found where we think the mouse came in and said the best way to catch the mouse is old fashioned snap traps. He put a few out where we found droppings and then he threw some bait in the crawl space and behind the fridge where obviously no one goes. We haven't caught the mouse, but we haven't seen any other droppings or had any other issues. I am assuming the bait did it's job.
Edited to add he also filled the holes he found behind the stove inside our house and temporarily filled the hole outside leading to the crawl space which we then had to permanently fill it.

We have used the bait before. They come with these little plastic boxes, you put a packet of bait in (looks like bird seed) they bring it back to the nest. It was very successful. We had gotten a batch of firewood delivered that must have had a nest in it.

If you let them go, they will just return to wherever they are living.

Re: Found mouse droppings in the house
don't waste your money on an exterminator. if you have mice in your house, an exterminator setting traps and checking once a month isn't speedy enough to rid you of the problem. and if the trap is effective, then you have a dead mouse sitting around your house waiting for the exterminator to come back? if you set traps in good locations, you can catch many within a week. i would suggest you buy snap traps and set them w/ peanut butter in areas where you've seen droppings. check them daily. if you catch a mouse, replace a trap in the same spot to see if you get any more there.
ideally, going forward, you can find the point(s) of entry and seal it up to prevent them from coming in again.
