I struggled with this too. Ultimately, I did the whole big party thing for the exact reason you stated. I didn't want my subsequent sons to feel like they got slighted. It's so annoying though. I wish I didn't care about it.

IDK I don't think you HAVE to do it. It would be nice though because you did do it for your first child. I'm one of 3 kids (the middle child) and although I don't remember the really early birthdays, looking back at the pics is nice.
As I got older, there were a lot of things I missed out on cause my mom "learned her lesson the first time" or didn't want to do things again. I get that some things were harder than she thought they'd be. It hurt my feelings at the time though. I think that's why I'm determined to be so fair.
