Zika, Traveling, TTC

We are not planning on TTC this year. If we TTC (via IVF), we will do it Summer 2018.

With this in mind, would you travel to places THIS summer that might have Zika (cruise, Turks and Caicos, etc)?

Possibly......I have yet to see a mosquito on a cruise. We went to Puerto Rico last year, height of Zika, and again, not a single mosquito. I don't think they live on the beach...too windy. I would investigate where exactly you are going and ask other travelers who have been to those specific resorts, and read trip advisor.

Everywhere has Zika. US may have Zika this summer (in NYC). I know many people said that there are no mosquitoes in lots of resorts, but I got bit up last summer in all the places I travelled (Florida, Aruba & grand Cayman). The rest of my family didn't get a bite.

I don't think anyone has a clear idea about timing of pregnancy after Zika.

I would go. But it's personal. Is it your first child? If you were told you had to wait a year, could you? You won't be able to travel after you get pregnant and with a young child.

I have a 2 year old DS - he'll be 3 in a few months.

Summer 2018 is the last time we'd try to get pregnant. We're probably just going to do 1 IVF cycle and see what happens. Banking my DH's sperm is getting expensive...

I would not. We went away over December break and even though I wasn't pregnant I knew within the next 6 months to a year I would like to start trying and didn't want to take my chances going somewhere that has Zika. We decided to go to San Diego and I'm so happy we did because I got the shock of my life when I found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago. We also dealt with infertility and I never believed I could get pregnant on my own. So you never know. I wouldn't chance it.

We are going to Bermuda in April and so far there is no Zika there as it isn't technically the Caribbean. We aren't taking DD, but I heard it's a great place to take kids and is only a 2 hour flight.

DD is 9 months now and we plan to have another in the relatively near future- I'm talking like trying in late 2018/2019. I'm afraid to travel anywhere with Zika. I don't want to risk it. We're also looking at Bermuda since it's the only place we've really seen that does not have Zika as of yet.

There's a great cruise leaving from NY that docks in Bermuda for 3 days on NCL.

Thanks Everyone! We will probably stay close to home this year (if you read my other post).

I wish this was the case for us, but my DH is infertile (we are using his frozen sperm from 2004) so it is literally impossible for us to accidentally get pregnant. We've been trying to do that for 7 years!!!

Zika, Traveling, TTC

I knew we were going to TTC this year and had no plans on going to any country that had the potential for Zika. We usually go on vacation for my DS birthday in early March. This year we are going to Japan :)

I would avoid zika areas if I knew I was planning to TTC in the near future.

DH won't even take our kids (ages 5 and 7) to the Caribbean for spring break because of zika.
