I am not now nor have I ever said there may not be a few bad cops out there but there are more criminals then cops. And I'm sorry, and maybe it doesn't work but I have to agree it is the mentality of us against them. There is no other way since the them sees it that way.
That mentality is part of the problem.

Do not hesitate use of force is by no means saying shoot then ask questions. It means don't hesitate if needed and appropriate as the writer stated. Since all this started this year there have been a few, as shown by body cams that hesitated and were shot and/or killed. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but at the end of he day it is the PO that should return to the family not the criminal!!!
Can you clarify what you mean by your statement about the criminals shouldn't come home to their families?
Also, as has been posted, this didn't start this year. Under President Obama the number of police shootings has decreased. It's just being focused on more now with everything that's been going on, so it only seems like there's an increase.
And I also have police in my family and friends on the force as well so I understand how you feel. I still believe an us vs. them mentality is counterproductive and will only serve to exacerbate the problem.
The OP is clearly antagonistic and angry, and the entire thing she posted is counterproductive to fixing the problem IMO.
And why do I feel like if I say that, I'll be accused of being anti-police? I'm not, for the record.
Not to mention, it's a little strange for someone who rarely posts to just come in, guns blazing, with a copy and paste post.
why is it strange? Something that got me to the point of wanting to see if anyone cares and taking the time to post about it is strange? I copied and pasted because I thought it was a good article, simple as that. Where are the guns blazing? I didn't accuse anyone of anything, I , in my post did not blame Obama or democrats, or anyone for that matter. I am sick to my stomach over the amount of officers being killed, simply sitting in their cars, not even in any kind of altercation. They are being targeted simply because of the uniforms they are wearing. I also posted last week looking for a good chicken cordon bleu recipe. I am obviously very confrontational
in all the posts on the election, I posted once about how nasty everyone was being to each other, taking no sides!!

you only took part of the statement, I didn't say the criminals shouldn't come home to their families. I said at the end of the day if it means one or the other coming home it should be the cop not the criminal.

Hilary Clinton was asked on the debate stage if she felt cops were biased. She replied- -aren't we all a little bias?
I agree that the current administration did not seem to support our cops.
I was going to make this comment...
But yes, I don't feel Obama has done jack shhit to help and protect our cops. A handful of bad guys started an all out race war. And the president just kept fueling the fire. Think what you want but it's obvious that this has been a problem since he was elected.

Re: WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE???
I would like to tone down the rhetoric in this thread if possible.
I know the OP a little from another board. I believe her to be a kind and decent person. So what if she's an infrequent poster. She's been around a long time and she's obviously upset. Let's listen and empathize.
I will stand by what I said in my previous post about what she quoted. I do believe that post contains the very divisive rhetoric it claims to abhor. It subtly blames our first black president - a gentleman by any and all reports and a man of some of the most measured and balanced speech I have ever seen - for the last thing in the world he should be accused of doing.
But those were not her words at all and she has an important message.
We absolutely should be out raged. Unfortunately, there's a lot to be outraged about lately. It's hard to keep up.
I would happily go to a peaceful rally in favor of the police. I'd wear all the blue I own. Tell me when and where and I'll do my best to get there.
All my love and respect goes out to the police. They have a very hard job and I think it's only going to get harder in the next four years. In the past I have happily bought some of them their coffee at the Starbucks in Atlantic terminal and this is a good reminder to do it again today.
The best way to rail against some of the assumptions and divisions in this thread is to just go out and show them love today.

From this article :
"Through Monday, there have been 60 officers fatally shot this year, up from 36 at the same point last year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit that tracks line-of-duty deaths. There have been 126 officers killed this year, up from 109 last year, according to the fund’s data."
That's not on par.
I agree with the OP. Where is the outrage? I'd like to see protests in the streets by those of us who are fed up with scum of the earth garbage ambushing and murdering our law enforcement officers in cold blood.
But we won't protest. We will mourn and rage quietly.
I made sure to voice my outrage today.
I said LOD deaths. And that is on par. You can look up any year and see the total # as well as the # by cause. So the total is on par.
