Serious OUTRAGE!
this is all I currently feel when reading or watching the news in the last week or so.
I can't believe this is America! we're becoming some sort of socialists or communist country!
are we EVER going to get TRUE representation in Washington?

DH thinks this is the prelude to the 2nd civil war, but instead of N v S, he thinks it will be haves v have-nots. I think he unfortunately might be onto something.

Well this bail out and the gov't getting involved with banks, etc. is socialist IMO.

So what is the solution???...I share your frustration and feel so powerless...I just think there needs to be some public action to let them know that the people they are representing DO NOT AGREE.

every country is suffering right now, so moving won't help.
I don't see a way out

I am not sure I understand people.
People don't want the government to get involved.
Yet, they get all mad there are no regulations on CEOs and their compensation, leave package.
This is conflicting at best!!!!!

It worked for me. Oh what a perfect time to hear a song like this. I wish sometimes the world could be like a Beatles song.

Sadly, most Americans are just too lazy to do anything. Things would have to be really really bad before we;d see any revolution in our lifetimes

and then people want someone like Obama who will involve the government in EVERYTHING, yet are upset that the republicans are more hands-off.
it's a scary time and the person who posted that it will soon be a war between the have's and the have nots is so right. it's so sad. when did we abandon the American values of working together and valuing family and community??

sadly, this is true.
we have been so blessed as a nation, i think we have gotten too removed from all those that gave their lives for our freedoms. granted, i don't wish on America the pain other countries have gone through (famine, drought, genocide, etc.) but it's so easy to forget when life was hard and so people get complacent and apathetic.

I agree with this. One has to decide - Do you want a hands off gov't or hands on? One the one hand complain about deregulation and on the other hand complain about intervention.

This is too general. I think most people feel that government oversight is necessary but not government giving 700 billion dollars to investment firms. Now they want another 150 billion.
Government is there to provide protection for its citizens...security AND financially. The whole MORE GOVERNMENT--LESS GOVERNMENT is WAY too black and white.

I agree, we need to find balance, not the far right or far left extremes. Some things in our lives have too many layers of government, other areas have no regulations or oversight at all that we can trust to look out for us.

what about a policy that fines banks for NOT loaning money to people who can't afford to pay it back? this is the crux of this mess

Re: Serious OUTRAGE!
We turned semi socialist under FDR - and it worked for a long time...maybe GWB's deregulation wasn't the right plan.
I think that there is a happy medium, but finding it is like balancing two people on a seesaw...it takes a lot of cooperation from both sides.
I surely hope that we don't see communism - that implies a violent revolution of the workers. I'm not ready for that.

I don't think we'd EVER become a communist coutry (like I said in another post) but we NEED government.
if this shows us anything is that WE DON'T CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.
people will take your money and gamble it away if they think they can make a dime out of it in the process.
people DON'T CARE. end of story.
the sad sad truth is that the govt has to say A and B, you are interconnected whether you like it or not, and A you will take care of B and vice versa.
b/c we won't do it for each other. we are too busy patting ourselves on the back for our accomplishments and "hard work" (the hard work in quotes b/c I am not sure how that is measured...by callouses or by bank accounts) and kicking our neighbors for not having the "giddy up" to do just as "well" as we do.
