I hope that doesn't happen!!! DH was telling me yesterday that he had a random dream the other night and his old HS girlfriend was in it. So of course I searched her on Facebook and then started searching old boyfriends of mine as well.
I sure as hell hope I'm not showing up on their feeds!!!!

Re: facebook -people you may know
That happens when you do a search, maybe clear your search so that they don't come up anymore?

FB uses insane algorithms - I wouldn't worry about it. They scan your friends, mutual friends, posts, etc to come up with those "who you know" things.

This. I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are you could have already been showing up in theirs or you might not show up in theirs at all. They use your contacts, posts, and even locations to try to expand the people you may know. I have a ton of strangers in mine... some with no mutual friends or only 1 mutual friend. I laugh when people insist it means that person was searching for you. A good friend of mine thinks every guy on the planet has been searching for her lmao.

Re: facebook -people you may know
I had that happen with a guy I was texting with from Tinder. I didn't know his last name. But assumed because I would go FB with my cell it connected his cell number. So he would pop up as someone I may know.
That's the only logical explanation.
So of course I looked at his page
ETS: Come to think of it I think I only get these recommendations when Im on my cell.

They can also scan people by email address, so if you ever used "find friends" using email addresses, the teacher may have shown up that way.

Re: facebook -people you may know
I feel like it's based on your searches. I never had a FB account, but would log on to DH's and search/stalk. Until one day - one of my searches showed up on the "people you may know" part. I freaked and never searched again.

I imagine your searches could play a small role in it, but it is based on so many other factors; I wouldn't worry.

Yes, you would come up on their page as people you might know. I know this because I can see when I meet people they have searched for me, but I did not call them, email them, or search for them. The next time we met I told them they could just add me, not just search for me. They too did not know it would come up for me that they searched for me.

It doesn't mean for sure that the OP is going to show up on the other persons page. The search is only a small part of the algorithm.

People You May Know are people on Facebook that you might know. We show you people based on mutual friends, work and education information, networks you’re part of, contacts you’ve imported and many other factors.
ETA: I noticed once that after a friend and I were talking about someone from HS, that person showed up in my "people you may know" section which makes me wonder if FB is testing the same technology that google uses on your phone to scan the background noise.. which is why you'll see ads for something after talking about it with someone.

My friend insists that her phone is listening to her. She was told to turn of the microphone function in them.

This isn't true. FB uses algorithms
I get a lot of people from when I was online dating, which hasn't been in 2 years now

Re: facebook -people you may know
I wondered how some of the people that come up on my people I may know list show up....I was scrolling through them the other day and my landlord and my old ob/gyn that I haven't used in 6 years showed up! Trust me I wasn't looking to find either one of them!
