Re: when is the first time you has your first child sleep out?
DD was 3. I never needed for her to sleep at anyone else's house. It was at my at MIL's and just for fun - she was fine and so was I

4-5 months at my parents house.... it is nice for them to have alone time with DS, and they say he is different when we are not around. He can be clingy when he knows we are there. I like to give my parents special time with him.

Re: when is the first time you has your first child sleep out?
I have not had him have to stay away from home yet -- meaning, where he went and stayed, without me, at say - my parents house or whatever.
He is 2.5 years old -- but I did have to go away for work when he was just over a year old. I had to go for three nights to Lake Placid for a conference. That was hard! But, he didn't know any different because he was home with his father. It was just me that was gone which made for a sad mom!
Since then I have went away for small trips a few times - long weekends to Boston, Newport (twice), and Atlantic City. It never gets easy but he's at his home, at least, and happy/comfortable... So it's just me that misses him terribly.

DD was 4 months old and slept at my parents house for 2 nights. She occasionally stays at my parents (she is now 3.5 years old)

It's different when you are divorced. I just plan things for weekends when my ex has my son.
When he was little, I think he slept out when he was like about a year old

My DD is 4 1/2 and has never slept over anyone's house. My DS is 6 months and same for him.
When my Dad lived in NY, he would come to my house to watch DD would stay however late we needed him to stay.
I am neurotic and really don't see my kids sleeping at anyone's house in the near future.

DD1 I think was just over a year, DD2 was 5 months (not by choice I was in the hospital for a week). I am very comfortable having them stay with my parents, inlaws, and sister. If we are out past their bedtime I request a sleepover- the grandparents prefer to be in their homes so it works for all of us.

Re: when is the first time you has your first child sleep out?
I have 4 kids and they have all slept at my parents house at varying ages from 2 weeks old to present (kids now range in age from 20 months to 6). I trust my parents without reservation, so it was never an issue. I also always formula fed, so that was not an issue either. The older kids ask for sleepovers now at grandmas! DD stayed with my godmother one night OOS at almost 2 while I was at a wedding and she did fine.

Re: when is the first time you has your first child sleep out?
My older ds slept over at my IL's house overnight when we had an OOS wedding when he was 5 weeks old & no one else could watch him. That was the only time, my younger ds hasn't slept out without us yet.

Re: when is the first time you has your first child sleep out?
My family is on LI and we're in CT. We never had a reason to leave DS1 overnight with them until he was 2.5 and we had a few weddings. Then, shortly after that we were hit with 2 storms that year where we lost power for days. We sent DS both times to stay with my parents for several days since daycare didn't have power either, but our offices did. I can't remember if DS2 slept over my parents' house without us there before this year when we went away for several days for our anniversary. He was 3. I go away every year for a few nights for work, but the kids are with DH. If we lived closer or had reasons to leave them overnight, I'd have no problem letting them sleep over when they were younger. I just probably wouldn't do it the first year because of BFing.

DS stayed overnight with my in-laws when he was 3 months while DH and I were 4 hours away at a football game.
