first time mommy -- sleep help
Hi ladies! sorry i haven't introduced myself sooner, but I'm tired! lol
DS will be 3 weeks on tuesday, and he won't sleep in anything besides mine or DH's arms. I try to get him soo sleepy and then put him in his bassinet, but he sleeps for about 20 min. and then is wide awake and starts to cry, but then will fall asleep in our arms for 2-3 more hours.
I really don't know what to do.. I feell like its a bad habit to start where he won't sleep in his bassinet, but I don't want him crying for us when hes still soo young.
Does anybody have any advice? or did this happen to u??
TIA!!!
And heres a pic of DS!

Re: first time mommy -- sleep help
Emerson was EXACTLY the same way and honestly still is around nap times. Time was the only thing that made it better. As she got a little older she started sleeping on her own. She doesn't have a problem at night (she's been sleeping through since 7 weeks) but I still have trouble with her at naptime. She could be dead asleep in your arms and the second you put her down she's awake. Hopefully she will continue to grow out of it. Good luck!!!

Re: first time mommy -- sleep help
Awwww- congrats- he's beautiful! I think ALL newborns go through this phase of not wanting to sleep anywhere but in someone's arms.
I found that swaddling really helped. For the first 4 weeks, both my DDs slept swaddled in the bouncy. I think because it's a papasan style bouncy it felt more cozy.
This time around, with DD#2 (who is 10 weeks) we put her in the bassinet at 5 weeks and it worked! I really believe that swaddling is key.
BTW- they tend to struggle against the swaddle, but that's totally normal- it doesn't mean they don't like it.

I haven't tried that.. I actually never thought to use it for him by himself, I just use it when feeding him.. I'll give this a try! thank you!

Thank you! .. I'm glad to hear that its a normal phase, and not something that I did lol
DS hates the bouncy, but DH is going to go out tomorrow and get him the swing and hopefully he'll like that better.
DS loves to be swaddled, and I do notice he sleeps longer in that then when hes not, but still will wake up swaddled in the bassinet.

Does he like the swing. For a while our baby slept in the swing and we slept on the sofa in the living room.

We didn't have luck with the bassinet either. Right now they are sleeping in their bouncy seats which is working well. We are planning on putting them in the crib soon though. They are almost 3 weeks.

Re: first time mommy -- sleep help
Mayghen - DS LOVES sleeping in the boppy so definitely try it
the first 2 weeks i was picking him up the second he cried because he is the same way (sleeps much better in our arms) and he is DEFINITELY too young to CIO - but he whined for about 3 minutes in the crib and then fell asleep
Just remember at this age, sometimes they just want to be held it doesnt mean they will never sleep elsewhere

My boys slept in the bouncy seats as well. Now we have Ronan mostly in his crib but Declan is still in his seat at some point because of reflux

Re: first time mommy -- sleep help
DS is the same way. I just sleep with him in my arms. I'd rather not do that, but at least we're both sleeping for a few hours at a time.
