You guys should see all the babies... Yes, BABIES and small children I see all the time not in any seat at all. As part of my job I work with the PD on sobriety checkpoints. I have been at just about every single one for the last three or so years. I would say about 1 in 5 cars that come through with babies and toddlers do not have any kind of seat at all. Most of the time they are just buckled in or sometimes not at all and are floating around the backseat!!! It happens so often!! The babies are often on the lap of an adult.

It literally gives me palpatations. Like, as a mom when I see this I get SO upset. The worst one I ever saw was a women who had five children -- ranging in ages from nine months old to seven years old -- all five in the back seat, just floating around, the seven year old had the nine month old on her lap. And the icing on the cake? The female driver was drunk. Sometimes I still can't believe what I see at these checkpoints. And on the other hand, like the cops I work with, I've become so jaded. We just look at each other at these things and shake our heads.

I know it's kind of off topic but dang it bugs the shit out of me and I saw this thread and it reminded me.

Kids and animals - they get me all emotional bc they are helpless!

This is just crazy!! Last year I went into my dd school and spoke with the director after a man would drop his 1.5yr old and his 3 year old off everyday to school in his work box truck without any car seats at all. It shocked me. I can't believe how many people are putting their children in the wrong type of car seats never mind not restraining them at all. I wonder how much of it is lack of education or knowledge about car seats and how much of it is just people ignoring guidelines and disobeying laws.

Legs pressing against the back of the seat is not a reason to turn. They could cross their legs or bend their knees. What's worse, a broken leg or neck or spine injury?

Ita except it's a broken leg vs internal decapitation and death!

Cast vs casket

I say this All of the time. There are so so so many drunk drivers out there, unlicensed drug addict under the influence buzzed, you name it- not taking chances. I think what DaniJude is revealing to us is a more widespread problem than we ever could imagine. I want to be able to PSA this all over the place without sounding preachy. I want to punch all of my idiot cousins and FB friends who post pictures online of their improperly restrained kids. rant over. I don't know how to approach them or how to say something without offending, so I don't :(

Omg it drives me nuts when I see pics on fb and the kids are not properly buckled in! Chest clips down by the crotch, straps so loose. Ugh. Sometimes I just can't help myself and I say "oh that chest clip should be by the armpits, that little one is too cute to get injured God forbid someone hits you!"

Or I posted a diagram about the proper bUckling and tagged all my mom friends as to not single anyone out.

I don't care if they think I'm an ass, it's soooo important! You could be the best driver in the world but that won't prevent some jerk off from hitting you!
