Spinoff question about climbing stairs
When did your DC start climbing stairs without using his/her hands? My DD (almost 22 months) has been going up and down the stairs for ages, and has been walking down stairs by holding on to the railing or the wall since around 17-18 months. She still uses her hands when going up though.

Spinoff question about climbing stairs
DD will be 2 in a few weeks and had some motor delays so she still either crawls up or walks up holding my hand. If your LO can walk down on her own I would bet she could walk up if you practiced a few times holding her hand to give her the idea!

My girls craw up like champs. I feel like they are too small to actually take a step up though. Plus railings are high up. They haven't mastered climbing down backwards yet so I carry them. That's next.

at home he will climb up using his hands (19 months). I find he uses the rail more at the playground on the steps (which I prefer since the steps are always muddy). I have to help him coming down the steps though.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest she was delayed in that at all! Most kids I see are not walking down without at least holding a parent's hand so I think there she's probably advanced. We've been practicing walking up a lot lately bc I don't want her crawling up the steps on our deck and getting splinters and getting any more dirty at the playground than she needs to. She's getting pretty good but she wouldn't dare to try it without help yet.

I feel like she's so tiny and our stair are big for her little legs to do upright.

Curious how many stairs are we talking about here?
I live in a split level, and it's about 7 stairs on each small staircase.
I tried holding her hand to have her go up the steps in front of my ILs' house when I was dropping her off this morning. Those steps are really high, and she could not do it without putting her hand down to steady herself.

Spinoff question about climbing stairs
Dd is 18 months and mostly uses her hands to crawl up and slides down backwards on her belly to get down the three steps into our living room. When we're out at the playground she tends to try to walk up but she needs to hold my hand and the railing for support.
