hi

Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

Having this discussion with someone, so I figured I would ask on here. Are you looking to make friends with your children's classmates parents/families? Or do you feel you have enough friends that it is not really of interest to you? For me I would love to make friends with other parents and find some great friends from my area.

Figured I would go anonymous for honest answers

Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

Yes, I am always open to making new friends but the problem with me is finding the time to meet up with them because of my schedule

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

I'm not really a social person as in I really have no desire to chit chat or get together with anyone at DD's school
I love that she has friends there and if we go to a birthday party, I will chat with some of the moms, but I have a bit of social anxiety so I never feel 100% comfortable with new people.

Not right now because DS isnt in his permanent district (goes to Prek near my office). Once hes in K and in our district then yes I'll make it a point to make friends with his friends parents.

This is sort of me, too. I hate small talk and I find it difficult to get together with my own friends & their kids, nevermind new people! I have a small, close group of friends who all have kids around the same age so if I'm going to make time for a play date, it's going to be with one of them!

My dd starts school on Tuesday and I'm hoping to connect with some of the other moms so we can have play dates. I am fairly social and like to meet new people.

Sure, why not? I met a great group of friends from my 8 year old's Mommy & Me class when she was 2--just had lunch with them last week. I also met another great group of ladies at my girls' preschool when my 2nd DD was 2. We formed a book club together and although that dissolved, we still keep in touch 4 years later. Currently, I've met some really good friends at my DDs' elementary school and the husbands have even more fun together than the wives do!

I made few very good friends when DD was in PreK at a private school, we are still friends, but I haven't made any new ones since DD started public school at kindergarten. I have few good friends but I don't /didn't see anything wrong with making new friends. I wasn't really "looking" to make friends from my DD's school, I'm not even that social and a bit on a shy side, but it just happened , I'm glad it did.

Not really. We already have a large family and friends with many kids of similar age. I mean, I'm nice to them and I don't turn friendships away, but I'm not specifically trying to get friendly. I like being on a level that I'm at least comfortable to chat with the moms at parties etc.

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

i put "other" b/c I don't have the luxury of taking my son to and from nursery school so I don't really get the chance to meet the other parents.

We have been going to Little Gym for a while and even though my DH and I got friendly with some other parents, we never made the leap to hang out outside of class.

For me it's a mix of shyness and not having enough time to see the friends I already have. I guess maybe it would be nice though. Chat Icon

Yes - I've made some friends through daycare - some of them have become good friends. It's nice to have friends that live close by who have kids the same age as yours.

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

I have a hard time finding time to see the friends I already have, but even still, once my DD starts school, I would happily become friends with other parents if we happen to click.

I picked other cause I'm not looking for it but if I clicked with someone I wouldn't avoid it. Just not actively looking for it.

Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

My daughter is only in Pre-K but I have been very bummed lately because we have no friends. I didn't grow up in this area so we don't have anyone we get together with on a regular basis. My DD always says she doesn't have a "BFF"! There are moms that socialize outside the school but I cannot since I have a young child with me, and those moms all know each other from the previous years.

Yes because my friends are all over the island. It would be nice to have some friends in the neighborhood that we could get together with on a more regular basis.

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

Yes, for both my and my DH's benefit as well as my children's.

One of the reasons why we left our first nursery school was because my DD and I became friendly with a number of students and their parents, but none of them were from our school district. I knew that down the road it was going to be challenging trying to find time to hang out with them as opposed to families who are within our district whome we get to see at events/programs and other social gatherings.

I've developed a nice amount of friendships in our current district and I'm open to more as my younger children enter the district. My biggest obstacle is finding the time while having 3 (soon to be 4) little ones and a DH who travels quite often.

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

I have real social anxiety too, I didn't think I'd be interested in getting to know the parents, but I think if my kid makes friends and wants to spend time/play dates whatever, I really should get to know the parents. I think of it as a chore, sorry to say, but optimistic I'll meet some nice people.

Re: Poll Are you looking to make friends with classmates parents?

Not really, I have a small group of friends now that i barely see. Plus this is not our home school district, but I want DS to make them. I'll chit chat outside during drop off & pick up but that's the extent
