Baby flat head

Has anybody dealt with this? Anybody need a helmet? How did it work? The dr told me today that he was going to give him another month to see if it gets better before e sends me to a baby helmet dr. I'm sick over this. I try to keep him off of his head as much as possible, but he's 4 months old... He has to be on his back sometime! I hold him often and we do Jumperoo, excersaucer and bumbo seat, but 4 month olds can only be happy in 1 spot for so long! I feel like such a bad mom for letting this happen to him!

DS's head was seeming really flat to me from 3-4 months. The dr did not seem too worried, but I was scared it was heading in the direction.

We started putting him in the exersaucer as much as he would tolerate (took time for him to realize how much fun it is), highchair, adjusting his head when he was napping to be facing the side, bought the noggin nest for the stroller and bouncy seat. When i would hold him and he leaned on me I made him lean on a side instead and we tried to do as much tummy time as possible.

He will be 6 months next week and it has definitely improved.

baby carrier- ASAP, preferably not the bjorn. Something like a boba soft wrap or even the ergo. Baby can nap on you and while awake will be entertained by you doing your daily things- talking, washing dishes, supermarket- ect.

My DS had it and as soon as he started belly sleeping at 4 months his got noticely better. Never needed a helmet.

Number one- you are not a bad mom! It's so common these days. Please don't stress over that.

Follow the advice of your ped and get him off the back of his head as much as possible. Obviously he will need to be on it sometimes, there's no getting around that.

And don't worry, if it doesn't correct itself it's really not the end of the world to get a helmet. My DS wore one from 6-9 months and it was really no big deal.

My nephew had to have a helmet....and my SIL did not have him on his back any more than any other parent. I think he was always on the bigger side so that may have contributed to it.

Thankfully he had to wear it in the winter...but it made a huge difference and he really did look so cute with it. He adjusted to it very well. The only thing is that he would bump his head all of the time into things and not feel it...and he had to learn without the helmet ouch that hurts. lol.

My SIL pushed for it...because the Dr's kept telling her nothing was wrong and she knew otherwise.

Just keep trying to keep him off of his back and if he has to get it think it is only temporary!

I noticed a huge improvement once DS started sleeping on his tummy. At his 4 month appointment the ped said to just up the tummy time and seriously that week he started flipping over in his sleep. Between that, the baby carrier, the exersaucer, high chair and bumbo seat it got a lot better. At his 6 month appointment the ped said it was looking good and it was the worst it was going to get.

Don't feel bad. Now that babies sleep on their backs flat heads are going to happen more often. As much as DS was awake during the day he was still sleeping 10 hours a night and napping another 3-4 during the day, if I moved him he went right back to however he is most comfortable. There was nothing I could do about it.
