If your baby started to get a flat head...
what did you do? The doctor said to use a wedge, but I really don't want anything in the co-sleeper with her because I still worry about suffocation. Last night she fell asleep with her head turned to the side, so we left her. I am thinking about getting some foam, cutting out a piece in the middle and securing it under the sheet but I am not sure about this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Turn your babies head to a different side to sleep every night (just keep alternating right and left) and you can change where they sleep every other night, meaning one night I'd lay DS on one end of the crib, next night the other. It forces them to face different ways to round out the head. Supposedly babies will face the door when they sleep, so switching ends makes the head alternate sides. It worked with DS!
At 11 months it's pretty much round but he was getting a bad flat head around 4 months. It's near perfect now. Good luck!

I used to flip her to the other side of the bed. Since she always looked toward the door it forced her to switch sides.
She still has a slightly flat head on one side, but the doctor said it was nothing to worry about and her hair will cover it eventually.

My ped said to do this. That they are always going to want to face the door, so you should put them at one end of the crib/bassinett/cosleeper for one week, then flip for the next week.

Re: If your baby started to get a flat head...
We were told at tje beginning of the month that if ds head didnt round out we would have to consider a helmet. Well since then he sleeps on his tummy and doesnt go in his swing or bouncy anymore. We concentrate on how he is on his back during the day and in what position. Also we bought a noggin nest for the car seat and carriage. So after less that one month there is a tremendous difference. Our pt cannot believe that changes already We do not think he will be getting a helmet.

Just how flat was his head that they recommended a helmet? How old is your baby? What's a Noggin Nest?
DD has a flat head, but I'm not comfortable with her sleeping on her belly at night. I try to put her in her exersaucer and bumbo during the day so she isn't laying down. I figured once she starts sitting up on her own it will be fine. At least I hope.

Re: If your baby started to get a flat head...
It was getting flat on the back right side bc he has torticollis (tightness in neck muscles). But bc it was going flat in the back his rightside of his forehead was bumping out a bit. He is a preemie and these are all common things for preemies...or so i am told. I had him taking naps on his tummy already so he had no problems at night. We also have the angelcare monitor which gave us piece of mind. The nogginnest is from boppy. You can get it in Babies r us or online. I would call first just to make sure it is in stock bc the westbury store didnt ave them but the massapequa store did. It is just a pillow with the inner circle cut out so the head doesnt have pressure on the back. Dont worry it will go away once dc is sitting up more! Fm me for any questions! Oh and take pictures so you can see the changes.
eta: He is 6 months old...4 months adjusted.

definitely alternate sides every night, or every other week. that alone can make a big difference. i would use the wedge, but if you're not comfortable with it, then don't. consider getting the noggin nest for the stroller, swing, etc. during the day.
my BF just took her DS to a neurologist to have him looked at for the same condition. luckily his is not serious and it seems to be fixing itself. she holds him a lot, lets him nap on her, uses a wedge, rotates sides.

What's a Noggin Nest?
Boppy makes it, it's like a donut hole boppy to take pressure off the back of the head...

Re: If your baby started to get a flat head...
My daughter had a flat head. The doc said
1. belly time when she is awake - he did not want her on her back if possible That was hard
2. I was told no more infant carrier use a regular car seat. It places less pressure on the head.
I did buy the noggin nest though knowing that she would be in her swing and bouncy I too think it helped
