Daycare mom's

So we picked a daycare... its by my job and several of my coworkers have their children there.

We are happy with our choice - but I am still nervous...I hope he will be ok... stay a happy baby... all tht kind of stuff.

The place is very clean, safe from a security standpoint and offer a lot of educational activities even for the infants ( he's almost 8mnths)

It's far from home - I work a little over an hour from home - but little a 5 min drive from my job. I will do drop off and pick up.

This all happens in sept - I will return to work FT Chat Icon and DS will start with two half days week 1 then the following week start FT - 9-10hrs 5 days/wk

Were you all anxious/nervous/happy?

Any words of wisdom/pearls you can offer that help this be successful?

I will be ok - right. We met the "teacher" Chat Icon today and she's lovely...

Re: Daycare mom's

It will be fine!
I was happy to go back to work- even though DD was only 8 weeks- becasue my DD was colic and I was just MISERABLE being home with a baby that cried 24/7. It was rough.
But the week before I went back I was SOOO sad about leaving her- I would burst into tears everytime I thought about it.
Day 1 was hard- leaving her there- I cried on the way to work.
I called a few times though that day and hearing that she was doing great made me feel better.
By day 2 I was feeling much more confident.
It helps that you found a place you love and trust and that the caretaker makes you feel good.
We had the same sitution- a wonderful place with an infant room teacher that felt more like a mother than a stranger to me.
THat really helped ease my mind.
And it's only going to get better- you will be amazed what your child learns as they get older in daycare.
Truly amazing!

Day 1 is difficult. After that each day becomes easier. My DD loves daycare. She learns so much. You will be so happy you're doing this!!

I agree that the first day is the hardest. I cried heading to work his first day there. But he thrived there. It will get easier!

My DS is in daycare in the building I work in. I live in Suffolk but commute to Queens, so it's a bit of a ride every day with the little guy. Your DS will be fine and will end up a champion traveler like mine is. I won't lie, it's not always easy and you will have rough days. But DS is 16 months old now and he is a DREAM in the car. You will make it work and it will be fine. GL!

YAY! Thanks ladies! I know there will be rough days... but I have faith we will make it through.. It's just so nice to hear I'm not the only mom who's in a similar situation. The other mommies I know and chat with are in very different scenarios... so they kinda look at me like I'm cross-eyed...

I was so excited to go back to work but my DS cried all day long so I needed a break. He was 8 weeks when I went back and the only thing I worried about was that he was going to cry all day for them.

I picked him up the first day and they said he barely cried.....well he is 19 months now and he is still a perfect angel for them and turns into a devil the minute I pick him up.

He loves it there and I am happy as long as he is. For me it was easy early on....now I have hard days. Yesterday was one. I just wanted to hug him all day. But I make the most of my evenigns and weekends.

It will be fine - it was tough with DS 1 in the beginning not knowing the people who he would be spending the day with but, it got easier as I got to know them - so much so that I wasn't concerned when DS 2 started at all.

At 8 mos, you will be able to see how happy DS ther eand it's nice to see how happy they are at the end of the day to see you.

I could have written your post! I'm in the same exact situation except my commute isn't as far.

I'm so worried about my happy, easy going little guy! My mommy guilt is running overtime right now. It's breaking my heart to think of him being unhappy.

Ugh....first day is going to be rough!

Re: Daycare mom's

I will be starting her in sept., also 8 mos., also close to my work.

I tell myself that 100% of their day there is child-focused. No one walking away to do laundry, or multitask them while they are trying to clean out the pantry, etc. She is going to be around other kids and lots of toys and activities, and she will have a ball.

Re: Daycare mom's

The first days are hard but you will see that there are days when LO will go in with the teacher and not look back cause they are with their friends. ( another kind of torture for us) but they are happy. I know that when I put DD in at 4 mo that she was getting exposed to so much and she has, and is learning things every day.

Definitely this too!
DD LOVES daycare because it's just a wonderland for her- tons of new toys, kids her age, songs, books, activities, crafts, all kinds of activities that she doens't get at home.
She gets 100% attention all day long from her teachers.
It's like a kid's world 24/7 there.
At home she has me and DH to deal with- and we aren't nearly as fun! Chat Icon
