3 year old tantrums please help!!

My 3 year old daughter used to be the sweetest ever but for about two weeks she has been having full blown tantrums over EVERYTHING . She has an 8 month old brother who she loves but is just starting to reach many milestones so I wonder if that could be it. She has not expressed anything verbally and says she loves him. She used I hotI sleep with no issues Nd now has started tantruming (screaming, crying, standing in the hallway) for hours. last night she fell asleep on the floor then threw up when her dad out her in her room . This morning she had a screaming and crying fit because she didnt want me to go downstairs with her when she woke up (her dad was downstairs). She threw her blanket at me when I told her it was time to take a nap yesterday. We have been totalIy ignoring the behaviors but we don't know if its the right thing to do or how else to handle it or why she's doing it. We've been giving her LOTS of attention (playing with her, taking her to special places etc. Sorry so king but I am so upset and concerned. Please advise me on what to.

my sweet child turns into this crazed tantrum filled little being too. and i lose it. often. kills me, but it happens. what has helped me has been talking it out with the little tyrant. "use your words or i can't help you" type thing. it freaks me out, but i have to remember to be the calm one, the leader & all that, or they will walk all over you. ;)
it's so tough in the moment, and takes a lot of patience & practice, but it helps me. mostly. hang in there mig :) it won't be long until they outgrow it, and grow into a new phase.
they will never be this young again, i whisper softly to myself when i watch dc in their peaceful slumber. <3

Same here! I was getting so angry, would yell and put him in time out. Now I rub is back, walk away, remain very calm and look busy. His episodes have been getting shorter and easier to deal with. I think when he sees me angry, it upsets him even further into crazy land. Good luck!

I thought my DD was bad at two, but three has been a nightmare - the constant "throw myself on the floor" screaming and crying tantrums over the smallest little thing - it's driving me crazy. I just try to keep reminding myself that she will eventually outgrow this phase.

Don't worry- it is just a phase.

Try to remain calm. It is hard, but try to detach whenever she erupts. It's probably not the new baby either- most toddlers go through this phase at some point.

I found 4 and 5 (older DS is 5 now) to be much easier! Yes, there has been issues with mouthing off, but rarely any tantrums unless sick or sleep deprived.

It will pass!!!!!Chat Icon

3 year old tantrums please help!!

This thread is scaring the crap out of me. My DD just turned 2 and she is such a brat sometimes. She can be the sweetest thing, then you cross her and she changes into some other child. I can't imagine it being worse than this. I was hoping that I am getting the worst of it early and she will be over it by 3.

Yup!
3 is the worst age ever. It's the devil. Pure pure evil!
Whoever coined the phrase terrible 2's- did not experience the 3's yet.
2's are CAKE compared to it.

I have become much more of an alcohol drinker since DD turned 3.

I want to run away from home and never return most days!

3 is bad. Sorry to say... DS was so whiney at 3. He was getting better towards the end and at 4. For some reason he is getting whiney again. Chat Icon

Re: 3 year old tantrums please help!!

Literally a few days after DD turned 3 she became a NIGHTMARE. We have our good days and bad days, but the bad days are pretty bad. Tantrums, challenging everything we tell her to do, defiant, ignoring us. She has a baby sister too, but I really think it's the age as she's fine with her sister. We ignore her, try to redirect her and speak calmly. But it's tough. Whew.

Wine. Lots of wine. Chat Icon

This is what I thought, too, since my DD was also really bad at 2, but as amazing as it seems, she got even worse at 3. I know it's just a phase, and that it's normal for the age, but it's so tough.

It's the age. My 3.5 year old is a loving mush one second and a tantruming nightmare the next. Not much you can do...

We are going through it as well - the tantrums, the attitudes, and it's mostly over things that could be considered trivial (the wrong person picked him up at daycare, he lost his blue crayon, etc).
