when do you find out the results of the maternit21?

I took the test on Monday and they said it could take 2 weeks.
I'm really bummed bc we were so excited to share of the news of being pregnant on Christmas and this just sucked all the excitement out of it. Not sure if I should wait for results...

Thinking of you....
When I went through this with DC #2, he had a 1 in 12 chance at Down's and a 1 in 6 for Trisomy 13/18. My husband, the eternal optimist, kept saying the odds were still in our favour. It's hard to think of it that way but it's the truth.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this, I too had to go through it and I know how hard it is. Can you request another NT scan while you wait for the result of the maternit21 test? That is what I did and the second one there was absolutely no thickness.

I didn't even know you could do that! Thanks ill ask. They scheduled me at NSUH for another sono at 15 weeks. Do you think they'll see me again before that?

NT Scan results- update

I had a 1 in 13 chance (7.5% chance) of the baby having DS and we opted to do a CVS which came back negative as did the amnio. So a 1 in 94 chance means you have about a 99% chance of the baby being fine. Try to enjoy the holiday and remember the NT and blood work is all just ratios, nothing concrete.

Like a PP said, it's hard to think of it that way but the odds really are in your favor!!! Chat Icon

I had my NT done by Madonna perinatal. When the results came back with a thickened nuchal fold, I cried like a crazy woman, when I went to see the genetic counselor 2 days later, I badically demanded another NT. I was told that my insurance did not cover it and I would have to pay the 250-300 fee, I told them I didn't care. They went to the back and spoke and told me that the insurance would pay because they had found a problem. They called my DR. office had them fax over a new rx for a new scan and they did it over. The second one came back perfectly normal.

Thanks for putting it that way! I guess it was just hard to see the positive bc I've been so scared...

I totally get it. I CRIED and CRIED when they first gave me the numbers. It's scary, you have a little person in there and no way of knowing what is going on... but then I just realized I wasn't doing anyone any good by being a wreck and just focused on something positive and started pinning nursery and baby things on Pinterest. Time felt like it was going on forever waiting on the results!! Hang in there!!! Chat Icon

Crashing but I had a bad scan also with DS. Demanded a new scan a week later by a high risk dr- not sonographer- and the baby was completely fine. I would try to get another scan before christmas if that's even possible. Maybe you will get a good result (I know you will Chat Icon

I def agree with the others, those measurements are SO often wrong, it is esp promising that your blood work was more promising.. they are measuring SUCH a small thing that measurements are easily off!

My cousin is pregnant with twin girls. She was told that BOTH babies had a 1:5 chance of having downs after doing the NT test. After a long 2 weeks, she found out that both babies are perfect.
I often hear false results from that damn test! Good luck! Chat Icon
