NT Scan results- update 12/26
We went for the 12 week ultrascreen at NSUH today and they found the baby had extra thickness. The doctor sounded optimistic that it doesn't always mean a final outcome of downs but I am still freaking out. I totally had a breakdown in his office. I did the maternit21 test but that takes two weeks to get results. He didn't give me any numbers, I guess Ill have to wait till I see my OB on Thursday... Anyone else have results like this that turned out ok???
12/20- I went to OB today and the results from NT scan were a 1 in 94 chance of downs. How bad is that??! He said the results seem to be mostly due to the nuchal folds bc the bloodwork didn't look bad. What does that mean?? I was so upset I couldn't ask appropriate questions. I guess I will have to wait for results of maternity21 test in order to get a better answer... Please pray!
Update 12/26- Results of maternity21 came back normal! I am so relieved, I can breathe again! Thank you all for sharing your experiences and well wishes/ prayers! I greatly appreciate it!

NT Scan results
So sorry. I had thickness also and (I almost lost my mind) when I went in for the NT and everything turned out ok. The test is not 100% and I have spoken to many women who had the same results and everything was fine.

Re: NT Scan results
sorry, not personally but I know more than one person who were told they had a thickness level that made them worried and both turned out to be fine! My Dh's collegue was told her child had Down's from NT scan and she carried it anyway though her DH thought maybe they should not and she did not have Down's.
Hang in there. Also, I got my maternit21 test after 9 days so hopefully yours will come faster too!

Re: NT Scan results
I went through this with my son and I'm going through it now. In fact, I'm scheduled for a cvs test Wednesday morning. I had an amnio during my previous pregnancy and my son is 10000000% fine. And even though I've lived to tell the tale, I'm still freaked out too this time around. Many hugs to you-you're certainly not alone

Re: NT Scan results
Our NT came back with a 1:13 chance of DS. We did a CVS and the results for DS were negative.
NT scan results are never 100% conclusive because they're just based on odds and ratios. Hang in there and try not to stress too much!!!!

Yep, me last year. I went through 12 weeks of worry after that. And everything is fine and I now have a happy and healthy 9 month old.
I can't even remember the numbers exactly, I am sure I wrote them out at one point when I was going through it. I think my OB said I was higher than their highest cutoff, which was 3.5 (they like to see 2.5 and lower.) I think I was a 4.7. I went immediately to a high risk place and had the NT sono done again with more high tech equipment. same result Because I was 39 at the time, I didn't want to wait for the amnio, I scheduled the CVS testing right away.
Well, the CVS test came back perfectly normal. I was never so relieved, I though I was clear to enjoy. But I never felt at ease, because they kept insisting I needed to see a genetic counsellor (which we did) and then it was suggested that I have further testing from the CVS sample done (microarray testing) to determine what syndrome the baby had (yes, they kept saying to determine what was wrong, not "may" be wrong). Since my insurance didn't cover that, we opted not to have it done. I went on to have an early anatomy scan at 16 weeks, a high tech Level 2 scan at 20 weeks and then a fetal echocardiogram at 23 weeks, since a lot of times there turns out to be issues with the heart. Nothing, and I mean nothing was ever wrong!
Not sure how old you are, but I HATED every second that I was labeled "advanced maternal age". And I believe that is why I went through it all. I know I didn't have to do any of the testing, but for me, I needed to know.
Good Luck!!

NT Scan results
Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences and/or prayers. The doctor was optimistic, he said if he had to bet he would say this baby is perfectly fine, I want to be realistic but I'm gonna try to be positive. I will get the results from the bloodwork on Thursday and my OB is hopeful the results from the maternit21 will come in my Monday. I really wanted to share with my family on Christmas so I would like to have conclusive results by then. Ugh why does everything have to be such a rollercoaster of emotions??!!!

This hits a sore spot for me, Trish. They keep saying the SAME thing to me. It's upsetting, insulting and makes me wonder if that's the only reason why they're doing this. Now, I was 34 when I had Hadrian so I know that's not always the case. But in this instance, they didn't even run my bloodwork last week before they had me sitting with the genetic counselor.

Re: NT Scan results
This happened to me too and everything turned out fine.
The sono people scared the crap out of me. When I talked to my doctor, she said my number was on the high side of normal and didn't understand why they didn't explain it to me.
Call your OB.

Re: NT Scan results
I didn't have that experience with the NT, but got bad news at the 20 week that ended up being wrong. There are a lot of false positives with these soon tests, so I hope that is the case for you. Sending good thoughts and prayers!

Re: NT Scan results
I despise this test. I have mine on Thursday and am worried about it but I learned, after my last pregnancy, not to get too worked up over it.
With my 3rd child, I was 33/34. My normal ratio was supposed to be 1/217. Mine, after the NT, came back 1 in 99. I decided I didn't want the amnio - went ahead with genetic sono and further bloodwork around 16 weeks. That came back with odds of 1 in 19 :( for Downs. I did go ahead with an amnio and baby girl was born perfectly healthy.
I know how stressful this is but try not to think too hard about it - this is SO common for the risk to be elevated. I am now PG with #4 and 35 so I'm expecting this stress again.

NT Scan results
My results with Thomas was a 1/252 chance he had Downs which was very high for my age range apparently....we went to a genetic counselor and she said the same. At that point in my pregnancy they were asking me to do an amino which I refused...I went through years for fertility to have a baby so whatever it was it was...but I still was very nervous and freaked out! ...and I wasnt terminating...
Needless to say, my 2 year old is perfectly fine with no genetic issues whatsoever...
That test is a formula ...an age, mis measurement, blood levels elevated change the outcome of your results easily...that's why it is optional...I would not stress out I know several ppl. That opted not to have it done bc of this reason...it just gets you crazy...
Hope you feel ok...I'll say a prayer Good luck!!!
