Another disability question
When we go out on leave for LO, we do we get disability AND short term disability at the same time or does one start when the other runs out? I have a fews weeks of paid time off accrued so that should be good, then disability as well. Also lol sorry for not reading any other posts on this but how much is it or does it depend on company? Thanks!!

Re: Another disability question
I thought the first week is the waiting period(employer usually has you take your sick time or vacation time) then the remaining time of the 6weeks (vaginal) or 8 weeks(csection) gets covered by NYS Disability(not much) and if lucky to have a short term disability policy....... then if you have any additional vacation time you use it.
the short term disability policies vary in pay out by the policy. Also, if your employer pays for it its usually taxed. If you pay for it in your paycheck it may not be taxed if they took the premium out after taxes.
short term can usually go up to 6months, which can be nice if your put on bedrest before the baby comes

This is how ours is. Elimination periods vary by company and some companies now have the same std amount for v birth or c section (mine does).

Re: Another disability question
It varies greatly by company. I had 8 weeks fully paid except my first week my check was 170 less because of the 1 week waiting period by the state.

Re: Another disability question
I had a v-birth so I get 5 paid wks not 6 because the state has a 1 wk waiting period for $170 a wk, still waiting on my check and DD was born 2/5. Once 6 wks is up I am adding 3 wks vacation pay (full pay) and 1 wk personal/sick day (full pay) leaving me with 2 extra wks unpaid. I am taking 12 wks total.
