Re: Sort of pregnancy related- do you agree with this?

I'd be all sorts of pissed.

I had a kid-free wedding and there were no exceptions.

His wedding isn't kid free, it's his family kid free. Which would make my blood boil because that's just wrong to discriminate family. But why the he!! can't your son be the 3rd ringbearer? He is your brothers first & only nephew! Granted he might not be able to walk down the aisle, but the other boys could pull him in a wagon or something. That, to me, is the icing on the cake.

I would DEFINITELY say something to your brother. It's downright rude to exclude your son.

ETA: IMO I'd be pissed if it were a local wedding too (not just a destination wedding). Again, if there were NO kids at all inviting to the wedding- NONE there- then I would understand. But HER nephews are invited and a part of her special day, why can't HIS nephew be a part of the wedding as well? It's crap and I would be foaming at the mouth.

Re: Sort of pregnancy related- do you agree with this?

I could *sort of* see how they say that a 4 year old is ok and not a one year old. I personally do not agree with that, but I could see how someone might differentiate between the ages. However, I have 2 major issues-the first is that it is your brother, not cousin or a friend. And second, and more important, what the he*l do they expect you to do with your son??? I would be ok if it were a local wedding, but destination weddings are different, it is not just one night, it is a few days, travel, extra expenses, missing work, etc. I would be way more than offended in this situation. I'm sorry Chat Icon It stinks.

Honestly I would be completely insulted and personally I wouldnt even go to his wedding...

What is his reasoning why her nephews are allowed but his isnt?

I would definately talk to my brother about it and let him know that hes offended me and my family.

I did not have children at my wedding, but I had mine and my husbands nieces and nephews there regardless of age and there were babies there. I didnt invite ANY guests with children, but our family... I mean ITS FAMILY! I WANTED my niece and nephews to share that day with me, it was one of the most important days of my life...

Im sorry your brother is wrong... Chat Icon

ITA word for word. I would not go.

I also agree. I'd be very hurt and would not go if my child wasn't included. If her nephews are going, his should be invited also.

Does she have any other nieces and nephews that are not invited? I could maybe understand if this was the case but either way I'd still be very hurt. I would not feel comfty leaving my LO at that age. I was stil BFing though but either way I still wouldn't want to leave her.

Does your DH have someone on his side that could possibly come on the trip with you and stay with your son the night of the wedding? Maybe the hotel has a sitter?

I'd be very pissed off! This is your brother's wedding not a second cousin, there is a difference. Can your parents talk some sense into him?

If a wedding was completely kids free then I wouldn't be pissed off. I totally understand that a wedding is a very formal occasion and having kids running around is a nuisance and disrupts the occassion.

That being said, this is your brother and your son will only be one. By that time, your kid will barely be running around. And if her two nephews can come, why cant his nephew? I would not leave my son to go to a destination wedding. Leaving them for a few hours is one thing, but for a few days - that expectation is ridiculous.

I was invited to a wedding two years ago where children were not allowed. It was a wedding out of state. We did not go because I was not going to travel across the country and then leave my son with a random person either here or there. Now, I have gone to weddings in NYC where I did not bring my son and I think that is completely okay.

I'm usually an advocate for "the world doesn't revolve around me" but in this case I would be offended BECAUSE her two nephews will be there so why can't your son be there. That is just wrong. If its no kids, then its NO kids.

Re: Sort of pregnancy related- do you agree with this?

I don't think this is right at all, and suprised that your brother and FSIL would even mention this. It is hard enough for you guys to travel to a destination wedding, now they want you to try to find a babysitter for a one year old for a week. That is not easy for everyone to do.
I would say either I bring my son or I can't go.

Why are her nephews there and not his? Are they older?

Either way, I'd be incredibly annoyed by all of it.

I wouldn't be offended at all. I had a kids free wedding and have to travel to a kids free weddign this summer without my son. THe only kids allowed are the ones int heceremony. I had the same rule at my wedding.

My son will stay with my MIL. If he couldn't then I would not go to the wedding. THe bride and groom amke the rules for their own wedding just like we all were able to do at our own and their wishes should be respected.

My wedding was kids free too but it wasnt a destination wedding and I actually did make a few exceptions for kids at my wedding since some people were coming from other states that werent even related to me. I guess thats just me though. Also, this wedding that you'll be attending is it your brother or sister getting married? I would understand if it were my cousin getting married and he said no kids..but this is my brother...

My point exactly...I would totally understand if it were a friend of mine or a cousin getting married but I am his sister..totally different in my book. My parents are in the process of talking to him, everyone agrees with me in my family.

I have to just add..(i already commented, lol) but i just can't get over the fact that a SIBLING would tell you no to having their nephew there!! I think its so awful. Sorry, if any of my brothers/sisters get married I know 100% that my kids are invited...doesn't matter where, or how formal...they are invited. End of story. That is how it SHOULD be, regardless of any situation. Family is family.

Yes, ITA. I think when it comes to your siblings there should always be exceptions. I would never have told my brother no to bringing his kids (if he had kids) to my wedding even though my wedding was kid free. And like I stated above I did make an exception to a co-worker who ended my wedding who was traveling from NC to bring her daughter. I was so happy for her to attend my wedding and I understood the sacrifice she had to make that there was no way I could tell her no...and she is not even blood.

either go yourself

or

both of you stay home with ds. --- which i'd lean towards cause its tough leaving a 1 year old for an overnight trip.

Initially I would say that I wouldnt be offended. I dont mind when people say NO KIDS. But why are the other 2 nephews going to be there? It's like it's no kids just not your kid.
