Re-designing engagement ring

Here is a photo of my current ring

External Image

Crappy pic but all I could find to post(The middle ring)

External Image

You can see the band is very similar. Since my stone is round we would have to add side stones to make up the square shape, or create a round setting. How do you think that would look and what do you think in general?

This is a link to another picture.

ETA its the 3rd pic in the gallery. The gold at the top is pink gold an dthe stones are pink diamonds. Th epic that made me fall in love with it I can't post here because it is adobe and I don;t know how

Re: Re-designing engagement ring

I had my engagement ring reset back in October to a halo style... I can't wear it with my wedding band at all because I don't like how the halo covers my wedding band.

It's really not an issue for me, because I took the side stones from my original e-ring and made 2 ring guards so I wear it all as a set on one hand with my wedding band alone on the other hand..

In general, I love those style rings.. which is why I got one! Chat Icon

Re: Re-designing engagement ring

My dad was in the diamond business for over 15 years and I loved this style when DH was looking at rings and my dad told him unless you're planning on getting her 3.5 carats or more the stone will look miniscule bc the border will take away from it..I have a nice size stone but was not expecting DH to get 4 carats although that would have been niceChat Icon Just something to think about!!

I was afraid of the same but I had a legit reason - the side stones were falling out of my original setting (pave). I still kept the original stones... at least the ones that didn't fall out Chat Icon and made the ring guards with them so I wear it all together now.

i have to disagree
my friend has a diamond much, much smaller then 3.5 and her diamond/setting combo looks absolutely stunning

as long as the stones surrounding it are not huge, and more a tiny pave, it can be done in a way that does not dwarf the stone.

Agreed. My ring is nowhere near 3.5 carats and my stone doesn't look small at all. Most people tell me it looks larger than it is in this setting.

Rebecca - your stone does look really big in person - I thought it would have been bigger! It's stunning!

I agree, my center stone is no where near 3.5 carat and my center stone is not dwarfed at all.

As a previous poster suggested def. check out ritani, they have so many halo settings!

Good luck!!

Its funny-I had seen an ad in a magazine and I ripped it out and casually said, I love this ring. I was thinking about it as a right hand ring. he said give me that so I did and then later he said he wants to have my ring re-designed to look like that and we can use the diamonds...so it was actually his idea

Re: Re-designing engagement ring

I don't have this style ring, but have two firends that do. One has a roughly 2 carat center stone, the other a 1/2 carat center stone. Honestly, I think both are beautiful and neither dwarfs the stone. And, the halo definitely makes the 1/2 carat one look larger than it would as a stand alone!

I say yes! I love that style, but for me, I don't love the added color. I also think these designs accentuate a center stone

Re: Re-designing engagement ring

I just had a new engagement ring made. I would have had a halo ring made but I do not like them on me so much. I have very short, chubby fingers. If my hands would have allowed for it, I would totally have gotten one. I also think that they make the center stone look larger.

Re: Re-designing engagement ring

Hey thats what I was told by my dad who was in the biz for a long time, I've seen girls with this style ring with smaller stones and to me I do think it takes away from it..but thats just my opinion..I absolutely adore the style and say why not go for it!!!Didn't mean to start a controversyChat Icon

I didn't care whether it looked bigger, only it had to look beautiful!!!!!!!!!! In the end I think that my stone DOES look bigger anyway. With Ritani and a few of the other designers, the side stones are small & they do not take away from the..........ROCK in the center!!!!!!!! The price of these rings is often more about the workmanship than the size of the sidestones. With a round stone of just above a carat I would say to go for it & it would be perfect. I think Ritani has changed the policies but in the past they would only set stones that you bought from their dealers or that were old heirlooms. Of course there are other designers anyway but it you decide like I did that you love their workmanship, then ask about that. I think Tacori has some nice ones also. Go look in stores in person if you have not already. PLEASE SHOW US THE NEW RING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon PS....Mine does not have the added color but I love blue sapphires.
