How did you and your DH decide how many children you want?

I think we are both happy & satisfied with 1 child but we feel guilty if we don't give DS a sibling. We'll have 2.

I always wanted 3 (well, if my first 2 were different sex then I would have wanted to go for a 3rd to have 2 of the same sex...). Dh agreed with whatever I wanted (he felt since i was carrying the baby, it's my decision  ). After having some strange complications with both of my sons, the dr recommended no more. We are very happy with our 2 boys

While we were engaged we always agreed on two.
Now that we have our daughter (almost 5 months old) he said "im happy with one"... I know he is saying that cause we just came out of the newborn-no sleep-all cry phase. Now that she is getting older we both realize we want to stick with our original decision...2!

ive always wanted 2. DH is fine with 1...hes an only child. but i told him if he wants sex then he'll have 2.

We said 2-3 before we got married. Then we had one. Dh was one and done. There was no way I was letting that happen I gave it some time and he came around. Our boys are 3yrs3mos apart and we are done.

We had one, then decided we needed to have another...since having two, we have decided we want at least one more, but will probably have two more, so four total. We sort of know that our family doesn't feel finished yet, and we already would have 3 years between our 2nd and the next one, and we aren't ready to start trying yet, so we figured two more that are close in age like our first two.

We discussed our finances and the future at length. My DH is nervous about money and having enough to go around. So, DH settled on 5 kids, though I wanted one more to make it an even 6. Unfortunately, I lost the battle and DH had a vasectomy in May.  Though he is right, we are pretty stretched to the limit, I really wanted to have one more baby.

I wanted none, he wanted 2.
So we comprimised on 1.
Kidding.
After having one we both realize we can't do this again. One is hard enough.
Plus i can't imagine ever going through pregnancy again. I hated it and it felt very unnatural to me.
We will count our blessings and be happy to have had one healthy child.
We are both getting to be too old for this!

Now that we have 1 I already know I will not feel complete at just 2...I want 3 now. I can't imagine only doing this 1 more time. DD is 6 mos old. We want to TTC when she is a year old for baby #2. I would love a 3rd but we will cross that bridge when we come to it. DH still says only 2. We shall see.

Amazing and so jealous you have 5. If I started out having babies earlier I would have loved to have 4 or 5! Beautiful family you have!

same except DH is not an only child.
we actually talked about this last night and i got sad he is fine with 1 which makes me feel like something about DS made him feel this way. we always talked about 2 but now he wants 1?
and DS is a DREAM baby

we haven't decided. neither one of us know (we're really not planners, i guess ). We thought about not having any, then decided to have 1. Felt like our family could be complete with just DD#1 or that we could have another, no real plan, happy either way. Then got surprised with DD#2.
DD#2 is now 1 month old, and we feel the same as after DD#1- we could feel done and complete, but may possibly be open to more (though, COMPLETELY avoiding any surprises right now). While i was in labor with DD#2, i told DH there was no way in helll i was doing this again. My strong stance on that lasted for a day Still, not sure what our magic number is, but not in any rush to figure it out right now, either. Just enjoying the family we have

Finances and space will dictate for us that this pregnancy will likely be my last. DH had always been pretty set on two kids. We didn't expect for them to be so close together. The doctor asked if I want to have my tubes tied during my c-section, but DH and I decided we didn't feel that we were ready for such a permanent decision. But we don't have space in our house and really can't afford a third.

Awww, don't be jealous... it's not what it seems. DH had 3 children from his prior marriage (ages: 6, 8, 10) and he and I have 2 DDs (ages: 1 and 2). So all together we have 5. Since he pays an arm and a leg in child support and because the CS agreement states that he has to pay 75% of college for the older 3 kids, he doesn't want to have any more. Thank you so very much for the compliment though! I am so blessed to have such a healthy family!

ugh I'm with you on that. I can't imagine only being pregnant and giving birth just 1 more time. I am 1 of 3 so I think I just can't imagine a family of 4...I need family of 5...it's what I know. DH is one of 3 children also so I'm hoping I'll get him to come around. We are years off from that though so I'll deal with it after DC #2. Need to act quick though b/c DH is almost 41 and he doesn't want to be an ancient dad! We only have 1 right now.
DH tells me the only way I will have 3 children is if I get prego with twins next time
