I always use fresh ginger and garlic - never out of a jar. I'm not a fan of pre-cooked/packaged meats. If I'm in a bind, I'll buy a rotisserie chicken though.

I don't take any short cuts really except that i always have beef/veg/ chicken stock on hand.
the only short cut i have are the kashi waffles, or kashi pizza. oh and i use canned pumpkin when i make pumpkin pie
other than that everything is made the long way...

Baking. I figure if I'm going to bake in the first place, I'm going to do it right. I make everything from scratch - cookies, cakes, pies (though I don't make pies often). I don't care for boxed mixes.

I hate pre-cooked meat/chicken, and refuse to use it. And I can't eat chicken soup out of a can; it's got to be home-made by my mom or MIL.
All of you anti-jarred sauce girls - can you post a recipe??

You are right. I work in a school so I am out at 3ish, able to shop and have extra time to cook...if I was getting in at 6 or 7 pm every night I probably would try to find more shortcuts, but I have the time and prefer cooking to cleaning

DH and I PREFER boxed mashed potatoes! and I use them in lots of recipes
We also LOVE rice-a-roni type boxed rice dishes!
I take lots of shortcuts but the only one I have resisted is sauce. But I am lucky b/c I can just steal my mom's.

Yeah, I have to use short cuts or I would never cook at home.
On the weekend is a different story entirely.

The only thing...gravy. We try to make our own gravy so I only use Vodka sauce or a sauce jar if I am desparate (but hasn't happend in a long time).
I do make my husband the new mashed potatos that are instant -- I think Betty Crocker -- they have different flavors and since I don't eat carbs that much -- its easy. He loves them and he's picky! Same with the 90 second rice. 90 second veggies.... 
I basically use any shortcut I can find cause I don't like to cook!
