What things will you NEVER take shortcuts with?
I'll never used canned pumpkin, only fresh
For pies, only homemade crust, no store bought (but for a quick quiche for dinner I will use store bought)
I never use sauce from a jar! Always homemade
These are ones I feel quite strongly about!
 What about yours?

I'm with you on pie crust and sauce!
I don't make pumpkin anything so
Any kind of pastry dough I prefer to make myself. Oh and pizza dough - it's so easy! I also don't like to use a mix for chocolate molten cakes...
I will used low sodium boxed broth though...
Hmm... I'm trying to think of what else!

Some herbs I'd never use dried...
like basil & parlsey
I will use dried oregano though because the fresh can have a very overpowering taste...
I don't like any of those boxed/bagged pasta side dishes... and I much prefer rice from the rice cooker!

Because I'm lucky and my family makes our own sauce once a year and jars it, I have never and will never use a jar or can from a grocery store for sauce. I just can't do it.

I will - and have - taken short cuts with just about everything! I try not to make it a habit.. but yeah I've cheated on just about everything I can think of. I've even had ... SPAM! *GASP*
Granted - homemade and from scratch almost ALWAYS tastes better. But sometimes I just have to make do with what's on hand!

I don't like to cook, but when I do, there are certain thigs that have to be done a certain way -
Meatballs are friend, not baked - I don't care if the whole house stinks for a week - I do not bake my meatballs !!

i always make homemade sauce
canned meat products other than the chili for taco dip (but I almost always try to use my own chilli)
fresh garlic all the way....never the jarred type.

I never (well virtually never) cooked before I got married (11 months ago)
My mom is an amazing cook and NEVER takes short cuts
Now that I am living with my DH and cooking most nights I realize it is usually better w/o the shortcuts...I have tried them all
So I will say very few things are worth short cuts the things that I feel ARE worth short cuts are:
Spanokopita (spinich pie)..the grocery store has great mini ones, low in fat and delish...and Im not Greek so I don't know the difference 
Ms. Smith's apple pie is just as good or better than any homemade I have tasted. In fact it is the ONLY thing premade my mom makes lol

Do you really notice a difference with the pumkin? I've done it both ways for pie & didn't really have a preference. I did decide this year that it is silly that I only make pumpkin bread during pumpkin season, when I usually use canned anyway, so I bought a pumpkin last night & will use the canned stuff in, say February, when pumpkins aren't in season.
I also don't notice a difference with pie crust--maybe the one my dad & I made jsut wasn't that good, but for frozon, I only use the Oronoque brand, which is very good.
I have used these in the past, but I no longer use:
--jarred tomato sauce (I make it from canned crushed tomatoes)
-- instant mashed potatoes
--flavored rice mixes (like Rice A roni--I have never made those, but my mom has.)
--anything with pre-cooked meats
(never even tried)
--taco mix

Never ever made or will make instant mashed potatoes! Also, I only use real rice...not the boil in a bag minute kind...ewww.
I bake cakes right out of the box  but when I bake cookies I make them homemade...ALL the time.
