I am begging.. i need help
i am in tears right now ,
we just got back from the vet for allergies.. so after the appointment the vet and the assistant had a "talk" with us. basically saying that our dog is too aggressive, and she cannot be bordered there anymore i can tell they dont even like our dog.. she is so bad at the actual appointments.. i already want to switch vets.
does anyone know if they have a place that deals with aggresive dogs? like for bordering and such?
i hate this.. my dog is so good to everyone, and is so mushy.. but once she is at the vet, its a whole other story..

I'm sorry I don't have a recommendation for you. But if you do switch vets and make sure they know about her demeanor, maybe they can help you acclimate her better. There are a ton of things you can do to make that a positive experience for her.
Good luck with your search, and I hope she feels better too!

what about the mobile vet? this way it's in your own house and maybe that would make it more comfortable for your pup?

Re: I am begging.. i need help
I know it's not the same thing at all but I wanted to tell you how I got mine over an extreme fear of elevators... People and treats.
I bring him to the office and enlisted some help from people who worked on my floor. They would go in the elevator first and talk excited baby talk to him, and he'd go in. We would ride down the elevator, no one touching or petting or talking and when we came out, we did the excited baby talk again and treated him.
Now he LOVES the elevator. We changed the association in his mind from a negative to a positive by giving him his two favorite things - attention from strangers, and yummy treats.
You might look silly doing it, walking into a vet's waiting room all loopy and happy and stuff, but hey. Whatever works, right? That's how I got Brinkley to go on the scary metal scale too. Treats and more treats.

this makes alot of sense!
and its funny because i was telling DH something similar.. we have been bringing our dog there since she was a pup.. she is 2 yrs old now.. we loved the staff there, but the actual vet we didnt like so much since day 1.. now i feel so badly that we should have switched a long time ago.. maybe my dog just needs a change? does that even make sense? do you think she just goes in there really afraid and petrified?? and this is why she acts this way?
as far as the kenneling goes.. they told us that once she is in the cage she is fine... but taking her out and putting her in is the aggressive part.. my dog just does not cooperate and they need a rabies leash to contain her
and normally she is NOT an aggressive dog.. just when it comes to the vet..

It's never too late. We have long grudges and memories but they don't. You can turn it around with consistency and time. Most of the things Brinkley was afraid of took less than a week to acclimate him to.
If she doesn't act this way in any other environment, at any other time than when she's about to be caged or handled, if you can take her food away from her with no problem, it may be fear-based aggression specific to those people or that environment. If they aren't confident in dealing with her when she's in that state, they may be hurting her more than helping her.
Do you crate her at home? If not, I'd start there. Start with short periods in there and then longer periods. When she's getting used to it, give her a treat in there, or a toy that will keep her occupied. We use the "crate" command and it helps so much, so we're not forcing him in there. Maybe it's the crate and not the people for her.
You can do it. I'm no expert, I just know what worked with ours, and yours looks like a Lab mix. Probably athletic and smart, right? She should respond pretty well to positive reinforcement.

Re: I am begging.. i need help
Awwww, poor Shea!! Kasey wants to offer her twin some doggie and kisses
I would try a new vet and see if they have any better luck. There has to be something that Shea just doesn't like since this is so different from her usual behavior. I hope things work out!!

This is what I was going to suggest too. Or, just call vets and tell them your situation. I'm sure you'll find a vet that's willing to work with him. He can't be the only one.

Re: I am begging.. i need help
Can you board him at a different type place like a doggie daycare center when you need to? its probably a whole different enviorment and experience.. i wonder if they are yelling at him and using bad energy because of THERE expectations.. that is unprofessional IMO.. is he biting them and very vicious?

i thought of this too.. and we are open to anything at this point...
i think for some reason she is being mistreated there.. it just does NOT add up.. she was always so good there , then they tell me THIS! heck , i have even given great reviews about them.. and then i get slammed with this!!
so yea , for some reason i just feel that the environment must be really bad, and hopefully this is why she is acting this way .... i hope so at least

Re: I am begging.. i need help
I had a similiar situation with one of my pups and the groomer. He was refused by 2 until I found one that really suits him. I called around and asked a few groomers if they would even consider taking him even though he may bite when trimming around the face and after a few rejections I found Vonnie and now Sadler loves Vonnie. You just have to find the right match! Good Luck!

Re: I am begging.. i need help
My friend had a giant mush of a rottie that only threatened to eat vets and their staff. When she was turned away from everyone else, she went to this place.... Nassau Suffolk Animal Hospital (866) 846-1120 or (516) 694-5930 27 Conklin Street Farmingdale, NY 11735 She could only go during the hours the handler was there but never had a problem with the aggression. Good luck wherever you go .
