grad school application - HELP!! I'm begging!

So I decided to apply to grad school for my masters in early ed.

I have to hand in the application asap - but one problem. I have to write a 500 word essay explaining my objective for applying and I must include a brief personal statement.

Ok - I have obviously been out of school for way too long, I don't even know how to approach this. I feel like I have to make an impression with this essay to get in and being a stay at home mom has taken a toll on my brain -

does anyone have any advice - any essay examples...ANTYTHING?? I am kind of desperate here.

Re: grad school application - HELP!!

if you are going for early ed you can draw on your experience of being a mother. Teaching your child. I would definitely talk about how you love kids.

Go on a couple of websites for grammer schools and read their mission statements. Then I would go on the Grad school website and read about their program and take ideas from both of them and build on them with your experiences and why you want to teach.

You should think about why you want to teach that age group. What appeals to you about that age? What would be the benefits? What can you bring to the early childhood classroom?

The good news is that I don't think they even both reading them if you meet the admissions requirements. Chat Icon Seriously, I was stressed out about mine, and someone later said they don't read them.

This is great advice.

I would also add a few suggestions.

You might want to identify yourself as someone always connected to education - in a number of ways.

You can talk about being an undergrad and what you majored in - be it Business, Music, Political Science, etc.
You can talk about how you have been involved in education after college - were you ever a mentor? Have you trained new employees? Have you been in a position where you gave counsel to people? worked in a camp? ran an after school program? organized a presentation?

What I would stress is that you might want to discuss how this decision is a natural progression for you. . . even if it doesnt necessarily seem so at first glance. You can have education be in your life in so many ways. I'd also discuss how being a mom has given you the opportunity to witness the learning and developmental process of a child.

Then I'd really work on having ONE SENTENCE that really gets at the heart of what you see as your contribution to early childhood education - what you are most excited about. I wouldnt focus too much on saying that you love children - (I'm sure you do - but I had to read cover letters for elementary education positions and so many people wrote that they loved kids). What I kept looking for was that one sentence that really gave me a clue who this person is.

Something like:

I am inspired at the thought of not just teaching a child developmental skills in the classroom - but witnessing that child's emotional and intellectual development out of the classroom.

or

Though it was many years ago, what I found in my favorite elementary school teachers was the wisdom to not just know reading or arithmetic, but know how I individually could contribute to the world. The lessons I've learned from Mrs. __________, my _______ grade teacher, to clean up my own mess, to follow directions and to most importantly, listen to others are lessons I've used all my life.

Good luck!
