well, i wouldnt do THAT. although i dont see it as big of a problem as some other things i ahev seen in grocery stores!
And for the record, my dogs are NOT accesories. they are my CHILDREN.

Agreed, but you can usually manage for your allergenic triggers. For example, I know that I can't go near the perfume department in stores, or I won't be able to breathe properly for hours. So I avoid that area as much as possible. I have to get magazines that don't have the perfume inserts sent to my house.
My DH, who is severly allergic to dogs, including the hypoallergenic ones, can't avoid it if you bring your dog into places where they are not expected. He's had to go to the hospital when he couldn't breathe after someone seated across the aisle from us on a plane refused to leave their dog in their carrier and let it walk all over the place. I'm a huge dog lover, but I knew marrying him that meant I'd never own a dog again. But he's worth it to me.

Personally, I am just scared of dogs as a result of a very bad experience when I was little and freak out being in the same room with them. I realize I can't help it when I am outside but if I am in a store, especially one that sells food or if there's a sign saying no dogs, I shouldn't have to worry.

i can understand how you guys feel it is wrong to bring dogs into places that have a "no pets sign".
COMPLETELY. i NEVER go in when theres a sign. i wait outside for dh.. or if i am alone with the dog i wont go in. (this happened just the other day)
But, in the original post it didnt say "why do ppl bring thier dogs into stores that have signs saying 'no pets allowed'"
otherwise, i wouldve agreed.........
But, when there is NOT a sign, i dont think ppl should get as upset.

When I used to work in a store, I used to love it when people brought in their dogs. It RARELY happened.
Now, everybody and their mother, and their 13 yr old Paris Hilton wanna be daughter are doing it and THAT'S what bugs me about it (in addition to the food thing).
This didn't used to be an issue. You never really heard people complain this much about it until now. Because now it's just a fad. It's the next 'thing to do'. The dog is an accessory, a "look".
You know how else you can tell it's mostly a fashion statement? Because ya don't see people walking into Macy's with their CAT. Maybe the cat fashion accessory will be in next year.
As for the kid thing - You can leave a pet home alone. You cannot leave a child home alone.
