Re: Good brands for LCD tv

We've been researching this for a little while now.

For LCDs we'd go with a Samsung or Sony Bravia XBR (except I don't like the glass trim around the TV)...for a plasma, we'd go with either a Panasonic or Pioneer Elite.

In the end, we've decided on a Pioneer Elite plasma.

We have two Sonys. They are excellent.

I have always liked Sony monitors.

Re: Good brands for LCD tv

It's really a matter of personal preference.

For LCD's, I like my Panasonic. It has a great picture. I've seen Samsung, Sony and others and they look very similar to me.

For Plasma's, I like my Panasonic. I've also seen many others which have nice pictures as well.

If you’re coming from a standard definition set, any Plasma or LCD HD picture will look amazing. Pay attention to the SD picture on an HD set. There are some that do not look as good as others.

I'd say look at the options you want and narrow your search to those TV's that offer them and go from there.

Good luck!

Re: Good brands for LCD tv

Plasma TV's Best: Panasonic and Pioneer.

LCD's: Sony, Samsung, Sharp.

If you have a room with lot's of light or a sunny window a LCD would be the best choice for you. LCD's screens don't reflect any glare.

But if your room is dark a Plasma TV is a good pick. Plasma TV's screens reflect glare from any light source like a window or a light fixture.

So when shopping for a Plasma or LCD. Stand in front of it, If you can see yourself on the screen I would move on.

Re: Good brands for LCD tv

I just picked up a Philips 47" LCD w Ambilight, 3 HDMI inputs and 1080p processing....$1750 at PC Richard. I love the imagery.

I could've just as easily bought a Samsung or Sharp Aquos...all have great picture quality.

Sony's are incredible too, but you'll also pay a nifty price for having a "Sony" and I didn't find their picture was worth the extra $$

Wow just saw all the replies. Thanks so much for your help! We were about to buy the Sony Bravia 40 inch...for $1,188...and then got nervous and backed out and are going to revisit it at the next holiday sale.
