Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
What a cutie! I wish I had Ava saying "Hi" to me - that would totally make me smile!
It's so sad that she gets upset when she doesn't get a response I really hope that it's just because people don't hear or notice and that it's not intentional.

I agree with you....
I thought that parents are teaching their children not to talk to strangers....then you get mad when a stranger doesnt talk to your child....I dont understand.
I guess Im mean but I usually do not talk to children I do not know....
Even if a child says a simple hi or hello to you first?? You would still not acknowledge that and say nothing back?

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
Who WOULDN'T want to have a conversation w/ that kid ??? It takes 2 seconds to turn around and say "Hi" back ...........- People are strange. -
I can tell you though, I will NEVER again say "Hi" to someone's kid w/o the kid saying Hi to me first - I literally got screamed at in the supermarket once day b/c this adorable kid (he had to be no more than 2 years old) was smirking at me so I waved at him - I didn't even SPEAK to him, I just waved and smiled at him and the mother freaked out screaming at me like I was a child molestor - and sent me out of the place crying like an idiot -

Uh, I feel your pain!!! My little darling Hailey is a social butterfly - says hi to everyone - thankfully most say hi back.
I always say hi to anybody who says hi to me! Sometimes, I take the initiative and say hi to little ones cuz some of them are so darn cute!

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
i am sooo mean i always say hi to a child if they say hi first, but if they say hi more than once i stop replying i am such a bad person i know but i'm not a parent yet so i guess i get annoyed a little more easily - i know a two year old shouldn't annoy me but sometimes i have my bad days!

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
I love when little kids get excited and wave or say hi to me. I always wave back and say hello.
If it's rude when you don't say hi back to an adult, then it is rude if you don't say hi to a little kid.
Hi Ava!

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
My sons are that way. They can't resist saying HI and talking to people. Now, they stop right in front of people walking by to get them to say Hi and talk (and I have to apologize for taking up their time)

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
HI AVA! I always say hi to kids.
I know my girlfriend was going through her 5th year of inferitility & wanted nothing to do with adorable cute little girls, except to have one of her own. She said it pained her to see something she coudn't help but wonder if she would ever have.
I think it's common courtesy to respond to a greeting, but in her case, it was more so she didn't break down crying in front of strangers.
Not saying that's the case with the 8 out of 10 rude people but it could account for 1 or 2 of them.

Re: Hi...my name is Rachel and...
i have had full conversations with kids in stores its hysterical - i wont walk away until they are done I love it- totally makes my day!
and I am the one always getting caught making faces at little kids in cars next to me when they make faces first. . . then their parents see me and think i am a nutjob but oh well LOL
eta: she is absolutely adorable and only a heart of stone could resist her!! i would definitely make a fool of myself if i ever saw her in public!

I think it's great when a child says Hi! But I think people think it's not okay to say hello to a little kid!
Well, I will say this. For the most part, I would never say hello to a little kid that I didn't know. Cute or not, I'm essentially a stranger. But I have in the past said hello to little kids when DH and I are in the diner and you see that little face pop up over the back of the booth. That I think is harmless.
I agree with you....

Are you kidding me? Yeah, guess I'm a bad parent for thinking that maybe people could at least be friendly to my completely supervised 14 month old daughter. How silly of me.

I might smile but I do not say anything....I have gotten some very strange looks from parents when I have said Hi to thier children...so to avoid that....I dont do anything
