Do you put something on your
bed, couch, car seat, etc in case your water breaks? I would imagine if it happens it could ruin the fabric. Any thoughts? suggestions?

my cousin told me to get "chucks". Its like large pads they use at hospitals

I haven't thought that far ahead yet, but I remember one of my girlfriends being advised to wear Depends or similar just in case.

It usually breaks with movement, so 99% of the time you will be standing ...or walking...

I was sleeping when mine broke. It was really weird -- I "felt" a pop and then the water gushed out!

Mine broke while sitting in a wheelchair waiting for a room at the hospital...hee...best way to move to the front of the line when there are 5 moms ahead of you! I heard it pop and I heard the gush of water...wild. I neer worried about it protecting furniture or anything...just be sure to clean whatever it is right away [well, obviously someone else will have to as you'll be snuggling with the new baby at the hospital....].

I was advised to put a shower curtain on the mattress. I bought a cheapie on at the dollar store. My water broke in bed at the hospital.

For my first PG I had a waterproof cover on my matress and I would sit on 2 big thick towels in the car towards the end. I plan to do exactly the same thing this time.

I did the exact same thing. I bought the mattress cover at BB&B. Towels covered everthing else.
