"You're so skinny, I hate you!"

I don't like when I hear people say this... and what the heck are you supposed to say to that?

i don't think it's meant to be mean or insulting. I take it as a compliment!

I get that too, especially since i eat like a horse and i usually say thanks. Like you said, what else can you say?

I either say thanks or it's in my genes!

I get that all the time.
It used to bother me when I was younger... because back then I was so self conscious about being skinny.
Now that I'm older I LOVE it.
It's a compliment.
Though people don't know how to keep their mouths shut.
Would you ever say to someone- oh my God you are SO fat??
So why is it ok to say things about thin people??

This happened to me and I guarantee you it might work for you.

I used to always say to my sister..."why are you so skinny?'...well one day she shot back with "why are you so fat?". I was so embarrassed, I have never said that to her since!

We big people (most anyway) always assume that skinny people don't mind weight/size comments.

I guess its hard to sympathize as being on the other side of things. It drives me nuts when people who are skinny say "do I look fat, do I need to eat that, etc".

Exactly... I mean I know they probably mean it as a compliment, but it really puts me on the spot b/c I can't say the same thing back.


Oh and another thing I get sometimes is "Yea I used to be like you, wait till you pop out a few kids." ***???!!

it's very rude because you don't know why that person is skinny. i work with people who are trying everything they know to gain weight. so it won't always be taken as a compliment

I HATE when people call me skinny. There's a difference between skinny and thin. I prefer thin. I'm not skin and bones. I work hard to NOT look skinny by eating right and lifting weights. So after doing all that work, it's insulting when people refer to me as skinny.

I try to not let it bother me though, because I know they're trying to compliment me.....

I think that comment is VERY different from saying "you're so fat, i hate you!".

The reason why is b/c the person is saying it b/c they are jealous or just being complimentary! I don't think they mean anything negative by it, even if it may be an awkward comment since you can't respond back.

When i lost weight years ago, people would say "OMG you got so skinny, you look so good!". It was to me kind of like saying "before you were fat and unattractive but now, wow!". Lol.

There are so many ways to interpret things I guess. Consider it a compliment in the end
